Pac 10 Predictions: Week 2

Posted on: September 4, 2008 12:06 pm

Week 2 may be the toughest week to pick games, because we don't know if teams' performances in week 1 were legitimate, or a fluke based on an opponent that played either very poorly or over their heads.  But here we go:

Utah State at Oregon
The Ducks used 3 different qbs last week against Washington, but won easily because they dominated the line of scrimmage.  Perhaps they will have a slight letdown this week against a lesser opponent, but they should win easily.  Oregon, 41-13

Oregon State at Penn State
The traditionally slow starting Beavers must cut down on mistakes, which may be tough in front of a crowd of 100K+.  Last year, they were routed at Cincinatti early on.  Penn State, 31-16

BYU at Washington
The Huskies face a slightly more conventional but no less potent offense this week.  They need to get pressure on QB Max Hall or it will be a long day on Montlake.  BYU, 24-17

California at Washington State
Cal surprised me with their powerful offensive performance last week.  The Palouse has not been kind to them in recent years, but the Cougar's rather anemic shwoing on offense and special teams doesn't bode well for them.  Cal, 30-20

Toledo at Arizona
Part 1 of the nonconference cakewalk was a success.  Part 2: Arizona, 42-14

Stanford at Arizona State
Perhaps the most intriguing game of week 2.  Stanford is at their best when controlling the clock and forcing turnovers.  They are up against a much stronger offense this week though.  ASU, 24-13

As always, please share your picks as well, even if you didn't post last week.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 2

Hey, LAwish, don't worry about JJ, the initial report about JJ is that he'll be fine for the Purdue game. If there had been any need for him to play against Utah State, he'd have been in there. Dickson was stopped a 1/2 yd short of a TD, but he had a good game overall.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 2

Keep in mind that I could be a bit biased, but I'd start JJ over Knowshon too in part  because the defenses Georgia will go against will be better. Don't worry about Dickson, I don't know why he was ignored last week, he'll put some nice numbers tomorrow.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 2

Dickson was the reason I lost game 1 in my league, I lost by only 5? points I think and Dickson got me zero!  I don't know how long I can hold on to him, he needs to produce a little more.  I remember him last year being a big part of the offense, did they throw to him at all last week?

I picked up JJ off waivers, and I am starting him over Knowshon of Georgia.  Should I trade away Knowshon?  By the way my other RB is Navy's RB, Shun White who ran for 345 yards and 3 TDs!  I found this guy on waivers too!  I have some slackers in my league.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 2

Glad too, LAwish. Dickson didn't get much going last week against Washington, but I look for him to be a big part of the O this week against Utah St and for the season. He has great hands, is fast, and has no trouble going over the middle. JJ. You made a great pick with him. A big play is possible from anywhere on the field, and he doesn't fumble. It's only one game, and Utah St. won't be a big test either, but he's averaging 6.0 yds per carry, and with spread offense, it should stay that high. Look for him to get around 20 touches every game, he's a good receiver, and loves getting to the end zone.

Hey duckbill you must be a Ducks fan right?

Tell me about Ed Dickson and JJ.  I have them both on my fantasy CFB team.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 2

Did you know Zona's SOS is rated #1?  I don't see why. Ridiculous. Idaho last week, Toledo this week, and New Mexico in week 3.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 2

Utah State at Oregon
Easy, easy.  If the offense had any kinks in it they were worked out in the first game.  Expect big numbers from every offensive guy.  JJ will have over 100 yards in the first half, and get most of the 2nd half off. Oregon 49- Utah State 3
Oregon State at Penn State
OSU starts the season slow, but has a tendency to show up for big games.  The Beavs are inconsistent and the hardest team to predict in the conference.  But I don't respect the Big Ten, or Penn State, who has a tendency to lose big games.  I'll go mostly on gut here, with the Beavs winning a grind-it-out game. (the other) OSU 21 Penn State 17

BYU at Washington
Washington has possibly the most difficult non-conference schedule in the country.  I forget exactly who they play, but I know they don't even get a peek at the cakewalk this nonconference season.  BYU is like Fresno State in a way, looking up at Hawaii, Utah, and Boise State all getting a crack at the BCS.  They are really hungry for that berth, and this is one of their best showcase games.  Washington doesn't stand a chance. BYU 37 Washington 10

California at Washington State
Cal coming back from a difficult season last year, where they fell from their #2 ranking.  I don't think that will happen this year.  They are ready to run the table, and they are the biggest threat to USC this season, take my word.  With Best and Riley running the show, and an underrated D with 2? All-Pac10 LBs, they will be weekly Top 25 members.  WSU is the slacker of the Pac10.  CAL 41 WSU 21

Toledo at Arizona
Did you know Zona's SOS is rated #1?  I don't see why.  Anyways, Arizona was a momster against Idaho last week, look for more of the same, just scaled down a bit.  Arizona 52 Toledo 13
Stanford at Arizona State
Both of these teams are trying to prove themselves.  Stanford had only one good victory last season, and ASU has to overcome all the writers and media who call them overrated.  They also have a date with Georgia coming up, and they will not let themselves go into that game with a loss.  ASU 35 Stanford 28   Sorry for all the "last season" stuff, I didn't get to reply to your week 1 blog.  Sorry!  Hope you enjoy!   By the way, I called both the Fresno State and UCLA upsets last week.
