Pac 10 Predictions: Week 13

Posted on: November 19, 2008 3:15 pm
Light slate this week. Usually I go in chronological order, but this week I'll save the best for last............. STANFORD @ CAL: Jeff Tedford is 5-1 in his career against the Cardinal. Cal has also been strong at home, and has generally won the ground game this year. If they can hold Toby Gerhart in check, they'll take this one. Cal, 27-17.................... OREGON STATE @ ARIZONA: Just 2 games left now before OSU could break it's 43 year Rose Bowl drought, and they have been on fire lately with the Rodgers brothers. But Arizona has the firepower to match them, and last November, the Wildcats spoiled the season of another team from the Beaver State. Arizona, 31-27................. WASHINGTON @ WASHINGTON STATE: It's Apple Cup time! I don't care what the records are, it's an exciting time of year here in Washington. Both teams have been almost equally inept, so it's hard to say who has the advantage. Vegas says the dawgs by about a touchdown. But the underdog is 5-2 this century. WSU, 21-17.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 13

Make no mistake, I am not talking trash about those teams. I am just saying that WSU should not be referred to as the worst D-I team in NCAA history.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 13

yes, you might beat Idaho, but Toledo?  They just beat Michigan, and nearly beat Fresno State.  Also Syracuse just beat ND.  I wouldn't talk trash about those teams either.

I'll give you credit for holding Oklahoma State to 38 points when even Stanford scored 58 on WSU.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 13

Stanford @ Cal - All of the pressure is on Stanford for this game. Cal is already going to a Bowl game and at this point it does not really matter which one. Will the Cardinal be able to handle the pressure and get to their first bowl game this decade? Unfortunately not, Tedford is going to play spoiler. Better luck next year Stanford. Cal 34-28

Oregon State @ Arizona - This is clearly a trap game for the Beavers. Not only are they on the road, and they have the Civil War next week. They are going to win, but it is going to be close. Oregon St. 35-33

UW @ WSU - The (cr)Apple Cup is finally here!! One of the Washington schools may actually win a game this weekend. Although I would not be surprised if it went 4 OTs and Bud Selig stepped in and declared a 0-0 tie. Really though UW is going to win this game, they have too much speed for the slow Cougs. It is going to either be a shoot out at 42-38, or a virtual stalemate at 4-2. Either way I am begrudgingly picking the Huskies to win.

On a side note, I have to take issue with the talking heads at ESPN saying this Cougar team is the worst D-1 team in NCAA history. Yes they are bad, but there are teams out there that both UW and WSU would beat. Unfortunately, we are having a very down year, but as bad as it is we would still beat Idaho, SDSU, Toledo, Army and most of the Sun Belt Conference just to name a few. Oh and Duke and even possibly Syracuse. So to say the worst in HISTORY is a bit of a stretch. It just so happens that the Pac-10 has teams that are explosive on offense and put up huge numbers, but they would put up just as good if not better numbers against many of the teams listed above. Now if this down trend continues, which it won't, then you might start that sort of talk.

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 13

Stanford - CAL

This game has the most importance it has had for a while now, with Stanford's bowl hopes on the line.  But Cal is too good.  There's always next year.

CAL 24 Stanford 20

Oregon State - Arizona

If this game was earlier in the season, I would have picked an Arizona upset.  But with the way college football is and all the drama, I say that tOSU wins and sets up a big-time showdown next week with Oregon.

Oregon State 41 Arizona 28

Washington - Washington State

The two worst teams in major college football are playing each other!  And both are winless! (I don't think Portland State counts)  What more could you want?  Let's see turnovers, penalties, and bad football galore!

Washington 23 Washington State 16

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 13

Stanford @ Cal: I want Stanford to win this one, and if Cal is sloppy and turns the ball over at very inopportune times, the Cardinal will capitalize. But, barring that, Cal wins.

Cal 30-13

Oregon State @ Arizona: At first I expected a tough, close game, say 17-13 Oregon State, but the Beavers have too much on both sides of the ball for the Wildcats to deal with. I expect a defensive score and the special teams to get some points for the Beavers and set up a brutal Civil War.

Oregon State 27-17

Washington @ Washington State: A game for the ages.

Washington 17-16

Pac 10 Predictions: Week 13

Stanford @ California - The Cardinal and Jim Harbaugh need one win to be bowl eligible. That is too much incentive for the Bears. What is better than going to a bowl game? Preventing your rival from doing it. Jeff Tedford will be 6-1 against the Tree. It won't matter whether Kevin Riley or Nate Longshore is tossing the pigskin.

Cal 34 - Stanford 17

Oregon State @ Arizona - Both teams are already bowl eligible. Zona is 4-1 at home this year, but the Beavers have won 8 out of the last 9 in this series. After 5 impressive wins by Moevao and the Rodgers brothers, I just do not see the Wildcats stopping them. Make it 6 straight for the Beavers as they proceed towards the BCS and the Rose Bowl (Civil War will decide it...).

OSU 37 - Arizona 21

Washington @ Washington State - The Apple Cup. The Cellar Dweller Championship. Throw out the records. Please throw out the records all those zeroes are killing me. As a Cougar, this is the one game we have to win. As awful as it has been, Jake Locker won't be playing and that means the odds are even. This will be an ugly poorly played game. Coach Wulff can salvage the season with a win. And yes that is how WSU alums feel. You can lose them all but not this game. Against my gut, I say Cougars win on a last second FG.

WSU 24 - UW 23
