Pac 10 (and other) Bowl Predictions

I love me some Bowl games!

Las Vegas Bowl: Arizona vs. Brigham Young

A early showdown between quarterbacks who had excellent seasons: Willie Tuitama and Max Hall. The Cougars already have 2 wins over Pac 10 foes, can they make it 3? After Arizona snaps its lengthly bowl drought, will the Wildcats just "be happy to be there?" BYU, 38-28.

Emerald Bowl: Miami (FL) vs. Cal

Jeff Tedford-coached teams are 4-1 in Bowls, and gets this one in their own backyard against a Miami team that has been mired in mediocrity for most of several years now. Cal, 24-13.

Holiday Bowl: Oklahoma State vs. Oregon

woo-ee! The Holdiay Bowl has been pretty high scoring lately, and these 2 teams don't need any help to light up the scoreboard (7th and 8th ranked scoring offenses). OSU, 52-48.

Sun Bowl: Oregon State vs. Pittsburgh

This one should be good too. Assuming Jacquizz Rodgers is healthy, this will be a matchup of 2 excellent backs against 2 solid defenses (Rodgers' counterpart is LeSean McCoy). Mike Riley is a good bowl coach too, at 4-0. OSU, 23-20.

Rose Bowl: USC vs. Penn State

Pete Carroll's crew is making a remarkable 7th straight appearance in a BCS Bowl. Joe Pa is 23-10 in Bowls, so maybe the Nittany Lions will give USC a better game than most Big 10 teams. But alas, no Vince Young, no Trojan loss. USC, 31-17.

Other BCS Bowls:

Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs. Ohio State

The Buckeyes have liked Arizona lately, but Colt McCoy is too much for them. Texas, 38-24.

Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati

Brian Kelly has done a heckuva job with the Bearcats. Cincy, 27-23.

Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Utah

The Tide better not overlook Utah, they are a solid club and have a BCS bowl win from the Urban Meyer days. But Bama's got some beef on the lines and should have enough to take this one. Alabama, 24-14.

BCS Championship: Florida vs. Oklahoma

A compelling matchup between 2 Heisman candidates, Misters Bradford and Tebow, and their potent offenses. But the Gators have edge because of defense. Florida, 35-28.

Heisman pick: Sam Bradford, Oklahoma.

Pac 10 (and other) Bowl Predictions

Las Vegas Bowl - BYU vs Arizona - Arizona is getting to the top, but they are not there yet.

BYU 41 - Arizona 21

Emerald Bowl - Miami (FL) vs Cal - The ACC is just a mess of a conference.  The #9 team nearly has as many wins as the #1 team.  Cal wins their bowl games.

Cal 49 - Miami 24

Holiday Bowl - Oklahoma State vs Oregon - Can you say WOW?  If you blink, you will miss a touchdown.  Both these teams know how to play offense (Oregon needs Masoli to step up again) and forget how to play D.  Oregon's D is a little better, but OSU's offense is better because Zac Robinson has been in the system and is a much better passer than Masoli.  The RB Kendall Hunter is no slouch either, and should produce just like JJ and Blount for Oregon.

OK State hasn't won any big games this year.

Oregon 61 OK State 56

Sun Bowl - Oregon State vs Pittsburgh - Oregon State has something to prove after getting blown out by Oregon at home in the Civil War.  They will bring it against a team from the weak Big East.

Oregon St 35 Pitt 20

Rose Bowl - USC vs Penn State - I have been saying this for years and say it again.  Nobody beats USC in the BCS except Vince Young.  Penn State is just another slow Big11 clone like Illinois and Michigan.  They are way overmatched.

USC 35 - PSU 13

Fiesta Bowl - Texas vs Ohio State - Why is Ohio State in this game?  They have 2 losses and Boise State has zero?  I don't care whether those losses were to Rose Bowl teams, they LOST!

Texas comes out angry that they are not in the NCG and blow away Ohio State.

Texas 56 Ohio State 17

Orange Bowl - Va Tech vs Cincinnati - This is a BCS bowl?  Are you kidding me?

Cincy 20 - Va Tech 17

Sugar Bowl - Alabama vs Utah -  Everyone will pick Alabama, just like everyone picked Oklahoma over Boise State.  And again the midmajor will win.  Bama has been pulling out close games all season and getting lucky.  The same could be said for Utah, but they have a great QB in Brian Johnson who would be on Heisman lists if he played for a Big 12 school.  So here is the "upset" pick, although I don't really think this would be an upset.

Utah 31 Bama 24

NCG - Florida vs Oklahoma - Both of these teams are playing great football, but Oklahoma has been exposed in the BCS.  Florida's D is a lot better than OU's and that makes the difference.

Florida 45 Oklahoma 30

Heisman winner - Sam Bradford

Pac 10 (and other) Bowl Predictions

Vegas Bowl- BYU 28 ARIZ 17 - This game could potentially get ugly, but I don't think it does.  I think Arizona rallies to keep this one close. Stoops loses his job anyway...

Emerald Bowl- CAL 42 MIA(fl) 31 - Nate Longshore throws 2 picks to make it interesting, no one to contain Best: 200+ yds 3 TDs

Holiday Bowl- ORE 55 OKST 42 - Oregon has shown that they have one of the nation's elite offenses, and can play with anybody

Sun Bowl- PIT 34 OSU 28 (1OT) - I think this will be an even game the whole way, I gave Pitt the edge because I think they are the more balanced team.

Rose Bowl- USC 52 PSU 14 - I think the real question is: does Carroll run up the score? The Big10 was a very weak division this year, I expect USC to roll over the inferior Nittany Lions

Fiesta Bowl- TEX 52 OSU 7 - I think the Longhorns have a statement to make... they got jobbed out of the SEC championship

Orange Bowl- VT 34 CIN 24 - Didn't think I'd be predicting a bowl victory of any type for Tech after they lost to Eastern Carolina... but I smell another Tech upset.

Sugar Bowl- ALA 31 UT 24 - Alabama's ground game will prove too much for the Utes; I'm predicting a late rally from Utah to make it a respectable score, but I see Bama up by 10+ most of the contest.

National Championship- OU 62 FL 44 -  After the Texas Tech game I said to myself, "Oklahoma is playing the best football in the country" since then, they put up 61 on OKST to win by 20, and 62 on Mizzou, to win by 41... there is no reason for me to belive Florida will be able to stop them.

Heisman Trophy Winner: Sam Bradford- shouldn't even be close IMO, he's likely going to finish the year with 67+% completions, 4,500+ yds, and 50+ TDs... and only 6 picks. (Although I will say the Heisman guys seem to love the Tebow type)

Pac 10 (and other) Bowl Predictions

Las Vegas Bowl - BYU vs Arizona - Arizona has played well at home this year. This isn't a home game. BYU has too much offensive firepower to lose this game. Cougars win in a blowout.

BYU 45 - Arizona 24

Emerald Bowl - Miami (FL) vs Cal - Hurricanes are a shadow of what they used to be, but they are on the right path. Cal's running back tandem of Best & Vereem will be too much for the Canes.

Cal 31 - Miami(FL) 24

Holiday Bowl - Oklahoma State vs Oregon - This will actually be one of the better bowls to watch. Both these teams come in with prolific offenses and anemic defenses. They may not set the Holiday Bowl scoring record but I am betting they break 100 pts between them. Keep an eye on OSU's QB Zac Robinson to WR Dez Bryant during the game (Odds are these guys will be playing on Sundays soon)

OK State 61 - Oregon 51

Sun Bowl - Oregon State vs Pittsburgh - this is a matchup between to good run based offenses. If Quizz is healthy, I say that the Beavers win.  If not McCoy and the Panthers win.

Oregon St 29 - Pitt 24

Rose Bowl - USC vs Penn State - Well I might get some more 1's from Nittany Lion fans for saying this but PSU is no match for the Trojans. This will be a blowout. Mark Sanchez and the Trojans roll up JoePa and his team.

USC 38 - PSU 3

Fiesta Bowl - Texas vs Ohio State - Longhorns blow the doors off the least deserving BCS team (How do you not put Boise State in this game? It is ludicrous.)

Texas 49 - OSU 24

Orange Bowl - Va Tech vs Cincinnati - Credit the Hokies for getting here. Bearcats take the Hokies in a close one.

Cincy 34 - Va Tech 32

Sugar Bowl - Alabama vs Utah -  Utes will again take advantage of the BCS stage to tout the MWC albeit without Urban Meyer this time. This will be a hard fought game but Brian Johnson will bring the Utes to a win in the games final minutes.

Utah 27 - Alabama 24

NC - Florida vs Oklahoma - Usually I can pick this without any qualms. But his year is harder. Still I think the Gators take home the hardware to the SEC again.

Florida 54 - Oklahoma 48

Heisman winner - Sam Bradford OU

Pac 10 (and other) Bowl Predictions

Las Vegas Bowl: Arizona vs BYU

I'm going to go with the Wildcats, their defense will keep Hall & Co. from going crazy, and the Tuitama/Gronkowski coonection, bolstered by some strong running will give little brother Stoops a Bowl win. Arizona 38-34

Emerald Bowl Cal vs Miami:

The Bears are up and down through the seasons, but have been successful in their bowl games, the trend continues as they blow way the Hurricanes. Cal 41-28

Holiday Bowl: Oregon vs Oklahoma State

Two high powered offenses go at it here, the D that can create turnovers or just make stops will be at a big advantage. Masoli picks up where he left off against OSU and gets it done against OSU again, aided by the Blount & JJ ground game. UO 45 OSU 37

Sun Bowl: OSU vs Pittsburgh

Jaquizz will be back and the Beavers won't let their dream season completely self destruct, the offense that was pulverized by Oregon gets back up and stops the Panthers. Oregon State 26-21

Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs Utah

Julio Jones is a freak and the O line will provide time to get the ball to him and open holes for Coffee to run through. Utah is a quality team but Alabama rolls here. Alabama 31-23

Rose Bowl: USC vs Penn State

Penn State actually has the more complete and potent offense, but the Trojans are just too much on the defensive side. The Nittany Lions will stay close for a half, but will wear down. USC 31-20

Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs Ohio State

The Longhorns will stampede over Pryor & the Buckeyes. Texas 33-14

Orange Bowl: Cincinnati vs Virginia Tech

Bowl experience gives VT the edge. VT 28-21

Championship Game: Florida vs Oklahoma

Florida gets the edge in defense. Florida 30-24

 Heisman: Colt McCoy
