Pac 10 Predictions, Week 3

Posted on: September 16, 2009 12:33 pm

A solid slate of games this week....

CALIFORNIA @ MINNESOTA
At least the Golden Gophers don't play in that awful Metrodome any more... after struggling with Syracuse and Air Force, Minnesota will get an introduction to real football.
CAL, 31-14.

UTAH @ OREGON
A very intriguing matchup.  After their magical run to the Sugar Bowl last year, the retooling Utes haven't been tested yet this year.  Oregon snuck by Purdue, but is still trying to find the level of consistency they hoped for in the preseason.  Dual-threat QB Terrance Cain will try to lead Utah to another win over a Pac 10 opponent.
UTAH, 24-23.

USC @ WASHINGTON
This game is looking like a potential upset for the Huskies.  After a tough win in Columbus, the Trojans make another road trip to Seattle, with stars Matt Barkley and Taylor Mays nursing injuries.  But UW doesn't have the beef on D to slow down Tailback U. or get enough pressure on whoever does end up starting at QB.
USC, 28-17.

ARIZONA @ IOWA
Another game featuring two good teams who haven't really been tested yet.  First road game for Matt Scott, and Kinnick Stadium is not an easy place to play.
IOWA, 23-14.

CINCINNATI @ OREGON STATE
A very under-the-radar matchup featuring two teams on the periphery of the top 25 rankings.  Each side starts solid slingers in Sean Canfield and Tony Pike.  The difference is Reser Stadium and Jacquizz Rodgers.  The Beavers get revenge for for the thrashing in Cincy 2 years ago.
OSU, 25-22.

SAN JOSE STATE @ STANFORD
This has been a pretty good rivalry the past few years, but Toby Gerhart and co. and moving on to bigger and better things.
STANFORD, 30-10.

SOUTHERN METHODIST @ WASHINGTON STATE
After struggling mightily with June Jones' old team last week, they go up against his current one, which has already doubled last season's win total.  If the Cougars don't win here, it could get very bad, very fast.
SMU, 31-21.

LOUISIANA-MONROE @ ARIZONA STATE
Last year, the Sun Devils were surprised by UNLV the week before the Georgia game, and it started the season into a downward spiral.  Can they avoid the same fate this year?
ASU, 35-17.
KANSAS STATE @ UCLA
Kevin Prince is out for the Bruins, and Richard Breihaut is apparently in.  But they showed last week that QB play is not necessary to secure a big win.  UCLA, 21-12.

Pac 10 Predictions, Week 3

Husky? YOU ARE A HOMER!!!!!!  Washington has no chance at all.  If USC is going to lose, it will be to Oregon State or Cal.  Washington is still very weak.  Putting up a good fight vs LSU means LSU is not very good, not the other way around.  Beating Idaho means they will beat USC next?  I don't think so.  This one will be close in the first half, as the Trojans like to tease the other fans begging for an upset, then pour it on in the 3rd to put it out of reach. It's crow-eating time...

Pac 10 Predictions, Week 3

CALIFORNIA-45 MINNESOTA-17
Minny is undefeated against Syracuse? Air Force? Not impressive at all, and they barely won those games.  Best chases 200 yards again.

UTAH-31 OREGON-20
I feel as if with this game, whoever I pick, the other team will win.  I want the Ducks to win, so Utah it is.  Should be close anyway, as Utah is not as good as they were last year, but Oregon has really dropped.  Ducks will fight to stay away from 1-2, but fall short.

USC-35 WASHINGTON-13
This game is looking like a potential upset for the Huskies.

ARIZONA-28 IOWA-3
I'm impressed that Husky has memorized the name of Iowa's stadium.  I am not impressed however, by Iowa's defense.  Allowing 100 yards to some guy from Iowa State?  Does anyone know how bad Iowa State is???  If Iowa State guy can get 100, imagine what a day Grigsby will have.  Field day.

CINCINNATI-27 OREGON STATE-30
Cincy has been unstoppable this year, but then again, so have the Rodgers brothers.  State gets revenge for the thrashing they got last time they traveled to Cincy.  Home and home series usually result in split.  Here we go.

SAN JOSE STATE-10 STANFORD-27
San Jose State has sure taken a beating.  USC and Utah the first two weeks.  Ouch.  The bleeding continues.

SOUTHERN METHODIST-23 WASHINGTON STATE-26
Wow, Wash ST lost to a pretty bad Hawaii team last week.  SMU also pretty bad, but they have to travel to Wash ST, where they...lost to Hawaii.  I don't think lightning can strike twice, so Wash ST decides to win here.

LOUISIANA-MONROE-6 ARIZONA STATE-29
Louisiana-Monroe is usually a SEC whipping boy.  Now they are traveling across the country to get their whippings?  Ouch.

KANSAS STATE-13 UCLA-25
Both these teams rank at or near the bottom of their respective conferences, but UCLA is coming off a 'big' win vs Tennessee, which more importantly came at the orange field.  K State is too bad of a team to win against anyone halfway decent.
