Pac 10 Predictions, Week 5

Posted on: September 30, 2009 4:47 pm

UCLA @ STANFORD
Two teams who are heading in the right direction.  The Bruins are coming off a bye, but I'm impressed by Stanford after they physically dominated my dawgs.  They look like an 8 or 9 win team to me, and UCLA still has questions to answer on offense.
STANFORD, 27-19.

WASHINGTON @ NOTRE DAME
The Huskies hit their first pothole on the road back to winning, and there will be more to follow.  Jake Locker should rebound against a lackluster Irish defense, but USC aside, the defense hasn't really done much this year and will get torched by air or ground, whichever Charlie Weis prefers.
NOTRE DAME, 35-28.

OREGON STATE @ ARIZONA STATE
Well, the Beavers are off to their patented slow start.  No one besides the Rodgers brothers has done much of anything.  Now that the calendar has turned to October, will they pick it up again?  We still don't know much about the Sun Devils, but at home, I think they take a close one.
ASU, 24-23.

SOUTHERN CAL @ CALIFORNIA
This game no longer resonates nationally after each teams Pac 10 opening loss, but it's still of vital importance in the Pac 10 race, where you'd think 2 losses would put a team out of reach of the Rose Bowl.  The injuries are starting to pile up for the Trojans after Stafon Johnson's horrifying weight-room accident, and Cal has been just as good at home as they are bad on the road, but I have a hunch the Trojans rise to the occasion (again).
USC, 20-16.

WASHINGTON STATE @ OREGON
The quarterback carousel keeps spinning in Pullman, this week it's Jeff Tuel.  The Ducks are flying high once again, and they'll make it 4 in a row at Autzen.
OREGON, 45-10.

Pac 10 Predictions, Week 5

UCLA @ STANFORD
Stanford's been more consistent at home than they have been on the road. I know UCLA's 3-0, but Stanford will get it done at home.
STANFORD, 28-17

WASHINGTON @ NOTRE DAME
My goodness that was ugly for the Huskies at Stanford last week. Huskies put up a fight, but not enough on the road.
NOTRE DAME, 34-24

OREGON STATE @ ARIZONA STATE
Oregon State has lost 2 in a row, and they really should have lost at UNLV as well. I don't see this one turning out well for the Beavs.
ASU, 31-17

SOUTHERN CAL @ CALIFORNIA
Cal was embarrassed last week at Oregon and will have motivation to win this game, but I think the UW loss got USC's attention; they know they can't have any more slip-ups.
USC, 28-21

WASHINGTON STATE @ OREGON
How did Oregon get 4 home games in a row? This is going to be ugly.
OREGON, 45-6

Pac 10 Predictions, Week 5

UCLA @ Stanford
I just can't trust UCLA's offense against Stanford's D.

Washington @ Notre Dame
I'm going to be a homer for the rest of the season an see where it gets me.
Oregon State @ Arizona State
I just think the Oregon schools are still #3 and #4 in the Pac 10.

USC @ California
I've seen a game where USC goes on the road with injuries before.

Washington State @ Oregon
The good news: The Cougs held USC to 27 points. The bad news: SMU is not a quality win.

Pac 10 Predictions, Week 5

UCLA @ Stanford: Stanford is a solid, physical team, with an aggressive defense and Gerhart may turn out to be the best running back in the Pac-10. Stanford 34 UCLA 23

Washington @ Notre Dame: It really wasn't surprising that the Dawgs dropped the ball against Stanford after the big win over USC, consistency comes from experience, and Washington hasn't had much experience with winning lately. I think Sark is doing a great job with the talent on hand, and the Huskies will keep it close. Notre Dame 31 Washington 28

Oregon State @ Arizona State: The OSU optimists are saying this is deja vu, but this season could be a very different story for the Beavers. The defense is having even more problems than the offense and that does not bode well going into a road game. Arizona State 28 Oregon State 20

So, who's playing for second in the Pac? The Bears were knocked out by the Ducks last week, and the Trojans lost to the Huskies and coasted in their game against Wazzu. One of them has to make a statement in this one. Cal 27 USC 23

The Ducks have improved each week so far this season, can they keep that up against the Cougars. Even if they have a letdown they should still win this game comfortably. Oregon 38 Washington State 6

Come on.  Why are you selling yourself short.  I told you last week Georgia would beat Arizona State, and they did.  Washington will beat Notre Dame.
