Idiot of the Week Honors: Week Three

Idiot of the Week Honors

Week 1: Devin Hester.  He receives the kickoff in the endzone, and just kind of dawdles around acting as if he's going to take a knee.  But then he decides to try to trick everyone and run it out.  He gets tackled at the 3.

Week 2: DeSean Jackson.  Do I need to say what happened?

Week 3: Kyle Orton.  Okay, okay, we know he's not the best quarterback out there, but this play was pretty bad.  Tampa comes on a blitz and get two rushers coming free to Orton, he pumps once or twice and continues to run back.  When the pressure gets near his face, he tries dumping it off, directly in front of himself.  So he throws it to the line, directly into the chest of Gaines Adams who runs it in for the touchdown.  Take that sack!!!  Take an intentional grounding penalty!!!  Throw it away near a receiver!!!  Do anything but throw it to the line.  Mike Tomlin was the runner up this week for his decision to go for it on 4th and 10 down by 9 late in the fourth quarter.

Idiot of the Week Honors: Week Three

Great blog stuff!  If you're doing Idiot of the Month (or Year) awards, Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress has to be way up there.  He's one of the only guys I know who would call for pass plays on 3rd and 2 when Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor both average around 5 yards per carry.  I can see a pass once in a while in this situation in order to keep defenses honest, but to constantly pass on 3rd and short (and to do it with the QB from the shotgun and an empty backfield to advertise a pass play) has to take the cake in idiocy.

Chilly then kicks it up a notch by never having Peterson and Taylor on the field at the same time.  When asked why the Vikes don't do a two back formation, Chilly's reply is "we haven't gotten to that yet."  That sounds like something Sarah Palin would say, but Chilly has had a couple of years' head start when it comes to getting a clue.  Being more of a hockey fan, I'm sure I'll be nominating the Wild's Martin Skoula and/or Kim Johnsson later in the year for some idiot awards, but seeing as how we're talking football on this blog, I recommend watching Chilly trying to get a west coast offense to work with non-west coast talent: it's not only good for some laughs, but it's also an excellent cure for insomnia.

What about Martin Gramatica he missed an easy FG to put New Orleans ahead. Wheres your little dance now Marteeen.hahahaha...I usually never get amusement from people getting injured, but when Martin hyper-extended his knee as a result from celebrating an extra point, well, I laughed for weeks.  I think he'll find his way on this blog before the season's over....unless he gets cut.

Guys, for Week 4, give me your nominations by Tuesday morning, then I will decide on it from there.  I think this could be a pretty fun thing.

Yeah, Millen is absolutely horrible.

The only difference between the Lions and the Penguins is Sidney Crosby.  hahahaha

Thats a good point tark, but I do think that changing an NHL coach is not as big of an impact of changing your QB, not that losing a head coach isn't devastating at times, but usually good things don't happen when you change your QB in an underacheiving offense.

How about idiot of the past 7 years? The Detroit Lions. It took them long enough to get rid of Millen. But then again, I don't think a new president will be much of a help at this point.

I did not like the way Kiffin managed the last 4-5mins he had against Buffalo. I'm not even a Raiders fan but I got upset with this guy refusing to use his timeouts and hoping that maybe the Bills "D" would fold. This was idiotic to say the least, but had it worked he'd be a hero I guess.

Fly,
I agree about Bulger, but sometimes you've just got to try to shake things up.  It was like when the Flyers fired Hitchcock.....was it really his fault?  No, but they needed to shake the team up.

Fishie,
I did watch a video of the play.....what an idiot.

yeah he did, Fox caught him doing it for a second before they realized what he was doing and they immediately cut to Jon Gruden who was shaking his head in shame. It was awesome.

How about the Patriots defense? I nominate them for idiots of the week this week. They let the same play score 4 times and then just when they thought they had it figured it out, they get fooled again!

Brett Favre is another one. I haven't seen Favre play so bad since the playoff game against the Rams several years back when he threw 5 or 6 ints. Sure he had 3 TDs and only 2 Ints, but 2 of those TDs came late in the game when it was already out of hand and he had quite a few passes put right into DBs hands and the DB just dropped it. I sure hope he turns it around soon, it would be a disgrace if his last season is absolute garbage. Maybe just the whole Jets offense is to blame, but I really hope Favre turns this around soon, I love watching him play, but not like that.

And finally, the Rams coaching staff for benching Mark Bulger for week 4. What a joke. If they are really going to blame Bulger for the craptastic offense, then they need their heads checked out. The WHOLE TEAM can't do anything and sorry, but Trent Green is not going to play better than Bulger. Bulger may not be as good as he once was, but the Rams as a whole are complete crap and to blame Bulger is ridiculous.
