Kentucky Has Some Life Left

I know I should probably curb my enthusiasm but it's been a rough season so far and this might be my last best chance to get excited. I didn't get home from work untill about 7 minutes to go in the second half but I got to see the end of the game. I haven't watched every game this year but it was the best I have seen them look all year. I have been telling myself that we were not going to come close to sniffing the NCAA's all year...but now? I seriously think that if they can go 10-6 or 11-5 in the SEC which is a good possibility if they continue to play like they did last night and win at least 2 SEC tournament games we should get in. I really hope we get in, it will be devastating not to make the tournament. I was not on board with the Gillespie hiring in the first place, I would have liked to have seen Travis Ford get a chance, but that is in the past now and I hope Billy proves me wrong and brings us six or seven  titles while he is here.

I can remember in years past when there would have been no way in hell I would have been at work when UK was playing a huge game with UT, while there recent decline has helped me out in the fact that I am no longer out of Vacation come April, it is distressing that I don't seem to HAVE to watch games anymore. Lets go UK, build off of that awsome victory last night and make me start pissing away vacation days to cheer you on!

Kentucky Has Some Life Left

As a huge big blue fan I am praying that we get a bid for the tourney. The losses at the beginning of the sesaon will probably have some impact, but in the SEC Kentucky has had a very good season.Billy should do just fine in the next few years. He is a good coach, and with a good recruiting class,he can help this team return to its winning ways.

Yeah I wouldn't be on here so much except that it sure helps the work day go quicker. I guess I'll add you as a friend anyway.

Kentucky Has Some Life Left

I have to say I was expecting a little bit more dialogue on the state of Kentucky basketball, I know there are many Kentucky fans on here I guess just not enough that read my blog.

Kentucky Has Some Life Left

While on the subject of KY I just answered a question on a thread about Tubby Smith, whether he will be missed, what kind of coach he was? I wrote a somewhat lengthy response that I thought I would include with this blog as well.

Tubby Smith will be missed by some and hated forever by others, which is a shame. The man was a heck of a coach, one thing that really bothers me is the talk that he inherited this awsome team that Pittino walked away from, I think that could not be further from the truth. Pittino would not have left if he honestly thought that team had the talent to win it all. We had lost Mercer and Anderson, the team started off not so hot if I remember right. I think if you were to ask any of the players who won that championship, what coach was responsible they would to a man, tell you Tubby.

I don't think he did a good job recruiting and I think that was his biggest downfall here, that and the fact that he was starting to hear from the large contingent of misinformed UK fans who would boo him every chance they got.

Anyway I was trying to answer the original posters question and have forgoten exactly what it was, I think Minnesota got a fantastic coach who will have them competing in the Big 10 instantly and in my oppinion any true KY fan will always have a place in their heart for Tubby. The Comeback Cats were mabey my all time favorite team and he WAS their coach, not trader Pittino.

Kentucky Has Some Life Left

I believe Gillespie has proven his ability to rebuild a program; he's done it multiple times(A&M, UTEP).  I have no doubt that he will get UK back to a top-10/top-15 program.  What he hasn't proven is that he can keep a program at an elite level.  That's not to say he's unable to, he's simply never stayed at a program long enough to show one way or the other.  Given the prestigious nature of the UK job, chances are he's going to stay around there longer than he did at his last couple of stops.  As a result, I think this will be the place where he shows if he knows how to handle success.  So I'll say the jury is still out.

Oh and I'm not a Kentucky fan, just someone who has watched Billy work his way up the ladder.

GO CATS

I believe they do and if they can finish with a winning record who does not want the cats to come and play in their arena, you know they bring more than double the fan support than most schools. If people will give the coach time WE will be back on top again.

Kentucky Has Some Life Left

So what do you think am I crazy for getting this excited over one victory? Tell me I'm not Kentucky fans, let me know that we are back on track and are going to restore Kentucky to it's rightful place as the premier program in college basketball.
