6'1"- 250 lbs - 2 killings... do those count as sacks?
Remember Rae Carruth when the Wide Receiver position comes up.

It's got to be Ray Lewis. They way he leads that defense in Baltimore is unreal

(In Response to: Whew, there are some great ones to choose from. One of my all time personal favorites is Willie Lanier - but the best ever, IMO that honor goes to the anchor of that Steel Curtain defense - Jack Lambert.)

There was too much other talent around Jack Lambert which allowed him to do as well as he did. Although, he would be one of my top 10 MLB choices of all-time. BTW, the Steel Cutain was the defensive line of the Steelers which is always pointed out by them when asked. At the Steelers games there was a banner held showing only the 4 lineman. Over the years, people have tried to incorporate the whole defense as the Steel Curtain.

Butkus
Bednarik
Lambert.

Please do not include Seau anywhere on this list again.  His prime in San Diego was nowhere near the primes of any of the elite players, including even Ray Lewis or Mike Singtletary.  I think even Zach Thomas has been better.  Seau could make big plays but too often was caught out of position.

Pretty sure Wilbur Marshall and Otis "Junk Yard Dog" Wilson would be glad to debate with you regarding Singletary having no help.  not to mention, Dan Hampton, William "Fridge" Perry, Steve McMichael and Richard Dent.  That's just the front seven.  I'm not even a Bears fan and can do that from memory.  If you can name their teammates like that or Lambert's Curtain-mates, you have help.

Without a doubt, Mike Singletary should be the one to fill this position. He played the position better than anyone. Lambert was solid but he had Ham and the Steel Curtain. Nietschke would be a close second and Butkus a close 3rd. Ray Lewis like Lambert also had more help then what Singletary had. He was the centerpiece of that defense that won the Super Bowl and proved the importance of having a smart and intelligent MLB. He could pursue and cover better than anyone previously in that position.
