Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

6th Position - DT      Vote for the best Defensive Tackles of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choices feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players names, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the positions being voted for that week, as those are the only votes that will count, Remember this week is a double dip and you will be voting for 2 players..........So who our Defensive Tackles?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

The Greatest Of All Time Team needs DT's

I am going Joe Greene and Deacon Jones and for me that is an easy choice. if I had to pick four though it would be hard as there have been so many great DT's over the years. I would have to give Page and Olsen the 3 and 4 slots I think though.

My vote has been cast previously but I thought I would comment on the choices I have seen. I have  already decided about my choices for DE.

I have liked and can understand how most of them deserve at least some mention as the best ever.

DKM your blog attracts knowledgeable fans at much higher rate than other threads. Kudos to you and the posters for for that.

I hope you will allow me to pimp a baseball thread I started that I would love to have such posters on. It is about Future Hall of Famers.
If anybody is interested in commenting on it here it is.

Thanks and if you do decide to go there please rate the posts, at least mine.

Can't wait to see the results of this position.

What exactly are we speaking here? Is it A-gap and B-gap, which are over center and over center/guard? In numerical, is it the 0-technique and 1-technique, over center and over center/guard? That is how i'd have to quantify my choices based on when speaking in terms of DTs. To the best of my knowledge, I'd have to say that these three stay at home DTs were the best. 1)Buck Buchanan, 2)Reggie White, 3)Bob Lilly. Warren Sapp seems to have been a terror in his days, but I prefer to rank these DTs who went up against offensives that played smashmouth up the middle running games. So Buck is no.1 and Reggie and Bob as 2a and 2b.

I am going to nominate 2 DT's from what I think are 2 of the best nicknamed D-units of all-time;

Alan Page- The Purple People Eaters

Merlin Olsen- The Fearsome Foursome

There are too many other great HOF DT's to nominate, these are the 2 I will go with.

Alan Page  &  Merlin Olsen....  For those voting for Deacon Jones..... the hall of fame has THIS to say.....

"Originally, the Rams weren't certain which platoon would be best for Jones but the Deacon quickly earned his niche as a  defensive end  and, for most of a decade, he teamed with tackle Merlin Olsen to give Los Angeles a perennial All-Pro left side of the defensive line."
