Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

6th Position - DT      Vote for the best Defensive Tackles of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choices feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players names, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the positions being voted for that week, as those are the only votes that will count, Remember this week is a double dip and you will be voting for 2 players..........So who our Defensive Tackles?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

The Greatest Of All Time Team needs DL' men

I am going with Joe Greene he was a #1 pick and the leader of the infamous steel curtain that helped carry the Steelers to four SB titles.  A ten time pro bowler and NFL defensive player of the year twice.
My second choice is Alan Page of Minnesota.  He went to four SB's.  Was the NFL MVP in 1971. Defensive player of the year twice.   A nine time probowler.  He and Lawrence Taylor are the only MVPs to be named that were defensive players.  HE is credited with 173 saks and 28 fumble recoveries as well. I would not want to meet either of these guys in a back alley.

The Greatest Of All Time Team needs DL' men

After some thought I have decided to go with Bob Lily and Mean Joe Greene.

One of the things I did notice when thinking about all my potential picks was that most of them all played with some other good to excellent linemen. Guess thats just more proof it is a team game and no one no matter how great they were will be truly outstanding without their teammates,

Here is a link to the Hall of Fame at Canton breaking down its members by position played. I thought it might be helpful for some.

DKM

I wish you were more specific if you were looking for DT's or DE's . This pick is tough enough by position.
I will cast my ballot after some thought. I have seen votes for players who only played both these positions at one time in the career who only one of them.

I do want to echo the thoughts of others here that this is one of the best threads/blogs on the boards now. It also doesn't seem any of the foolish posts you see elsewhere. A true pleasure to read and participate here.

I just have one suggestion. I would love if my fellow posters gave their age. It would be nice to know if they ever saw the players they are commenting on.

The Greatest Of All Time Team needs DL' men

My two choices for the DL position(s) are as follows

JOE KLECKO from the JETS ( Even being a PATROITS fan I liked and respected him)

REGGIE WHITE from the PACKERS

The Greatest Of All Time Team needs DL' men

Keep these posts coming.  This is one of the best ones out there.

Randy White should get the nod here.  He was the anchor of a dominating Dallas defense.  I'll also go with Alan Page.  Page is one of the best to have ever played the game.
