The Greatest Team Of All Time Needs A Kicker

Posted on: March 28, 2008 10:30 am

Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

11th Possition- Kicker     Vote for the best Kicker of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choice feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players name, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the position being voted on for that week, as those are the only votes that will count..........So who our Kicker?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

One of the Andersons, either Gary or Morton. Longevity and consistency will never be matched again.

Vinatieri is overrated.  He is a great clutch kicker.  But he is not mentioned in the NFL records at all for Field goal kickers.  In 13 seasons he is 98.1% on XP including 7 blocked, not had a 50 yarder in five seasons, 96% on 20-29 yards, 83% on 30-39 yards and 72% on 40-49 yards.  Now Matt Stover, has not been on good teams, vice one season, he has been in the league for 19 seasons and has hit 99.4% on XP with NO blocks, he hit a 50+ in 2006, 98% on 20-29 yards, 90% on 30-39 yards and 71% on 40-49 yards.  Clearly longer career better stats the only thing Adam has more of is Super Bowl rings.

My vote is for future HOF Matt Stover.

Scott Player still wears the single bar mask. Seen him in a couple of games for Cleveland this year. He also sports the Hulk Hogan stache.

Stenerud excelled for 19 seasons and 263 games in pro football. He never missed a game because of injury or illness - Enough said.

The Greatest Team Of All Time Needs A Kicker

I'm voting for Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans Saints.  Not only does his 63 yard field goal stand to this day, his participation in professional football at all was a testament to the human spirit.   Dempsey was born without toes on his right foot. Many claim his modified "club shoe" was an advantage.  I give it an advantage in as much as Elam's kick in the mile high thin air and tail wind was an advantage.  Both players used what they had to set the record.

Katfan has a great post.
I totally agree.
King of Bling is filled with knowledge of the game, both of the past and today. I get lots of info just from reading his posts.
Keep it up King.

Thanks to DKM for doing this great blog. You're the man.
