The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A Tight End

Posted on: May 2, 2008 10:09 am

Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

16th Position- Tight End     Vote for the best Tight End of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choice feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players name, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the position being voted on for that week, as those are the only votes that will count..........So who is our Tight End?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A Tight End

I agree with Shannon Sharpe. He was an awesome tight end. And what i liked about him the most is he was a trash talker while playing. He would get into the defenders head all the time. Gotta love guys who talk trash to everyone.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A Tight End

If anyone who has followed my picks here they know I am an old school kind of guy.

John Mackey was the prototype for all the star tight ends that followed him. He was big fast and strong. The first tight end to be a legit deep threat as well as a very solid blocker. His induction into the Hall of Fame was long delayed as he was one of the leaders in the founding of the Players Union. He is my pick.

If Mark Bavaro's career had lasted longer I very well could have gone with him as my pick. I will never forget him carrying/dragging six 49er's for 15 yards or  more on that Monday night game in 1986 helping lead the Giants big comeback win against a great 49ers club in that Super Bowl season.

Kellen Winslow Sr. was the only other TE I seriously considered. The position has had many great ones especially over the last 10-15 years, but I believe the three I mentioned dominated more than any others have.

Keep up the great work DKM.  It is much appreciated.
