The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

Posted on: May 16, 2008 12:37 pm

Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

18th Position- Running Back    Vote for the best Running Back of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choice feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players name, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the position being voted on for that week, as those are the only votes that will count..........So who is our Running Back?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

Earl Campbell. If I had to choose one RB at the height of their career in one greatest game, this is the go-to guy. As a Steeler fan, watching him in the 70s... he's got my respect above all others in getting those bone-crushing yards. I can't think of anyone more powerful or with a better nose for the first-down marker. It was painful to watch what it took to bring that Longhorn down. True-grit and dogged determination... pure football.

gotta give my vote to Barry Sanders too. the man was sick and played on a terrible team with no offensive line. imagine if he had the cowboys line to run behind. Scary!!!

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

Barry Sanders

He would have owned the rushing record if he countinued to play. Even as  a Cowboys fan i can say he was better than Emmitt. If we were to go with a Full roster of players I would take Emmitt as a #2. That would be a good balance of Speed and Power.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

Walter Payton... he did more with less... those who say Barry Sanders... 4th and goal from the one, last play of the season... down 5... and the Lions give the ball to??? pick a FB over Barry Sanders??? come on...

Sweetness was all-around, running, blocking, receiving... dominated games on a team that was dismal for most of his career...this is why E.Smith does not get consideration nor does Franco Harris or Tony Dorsett... when you are on a team of All Pros you should be that much better...

All Hail Sweetness as the best RB ever...

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

No one needs a PHd or a college education to tell DKM who should get the top sopt for running back on his "Greatest Football Team"

So without much more fanfare my choice is:

Barry Sanders of theDetriot Lions

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

considering that Jim Brown is at FB, as much love that is for Barry Sanders ... without a doubt probably one if not the greatest
"PLAYERS" not just a RB but overall to step on the football field, if you say greatest of all time, I would still pick Walter Payton just on complete package.  He wasn't the best runner speed wise, blocker and receiver BUT you he was way above average on every single skill that made a great RB.  While I like Barry, his size and while I saw him cut down guys blocking for a QB, I like having the option of Walter Payton both blocking, swinging out on a screen or as a check down option as well the RB passing.

I do have the utmost respect for Barry Sanders, and admittedly he said he didn't want to break Walter Payton's record because he respected him so much (don't believe me google it), and even Emmit Smith said the record really should be Barry Sanders'.  If he stayed in the game he honestly would have shattered Payton's record, heck if the Lions had a decent OLine.  Both Walter and Barry had the heart and I can honestly say as a kid, every body wanted to emulate both Sweetness & Barry on the field.

It's hard to find a player these days to compare to these two ... so If I had to say Walter Payton 1a, Barry Sander 1b.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

Even as a Bears fan, Barry Sanders is the greatest running back I have ever seen.
