Posted on: May 16, 2008 12:37 pm

Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

18th Position- Running Back    Vote for the best Running Back of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choice feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players name, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the position being voted on for that week, as those are the only votes that will count..........So who is our Running Back?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

My pick is Barry Sanders.

Not only was he a great running back but also the most exciting.  He would make completely unbelieveable runs.

I agree that if Barry Sanders would have played, he would have broken all the records.  Can you imagine what he would have done if he had been a a good team?

My vote is for Barry Sanders.

My vote goes for #34, Walter Payton.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

There is a pretty long list of "Great" RBs.  Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Franco Harris, Eric Dickerson, John Riggins, Marcus Allen, Gale Sayers, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett, Paul Hornung, Thurman Thomas, and the list goes on.  Having listed those names, none of them are my picks.

Walter Payton gets the nod.  He was the best I ever saw play.  Like Barry Sanders, he accomplished unbeleivable things while playing for pretty bad football teams (with the exception of the 1985 Bears.)  He had great field vision, speed and power which was critical in that he had no offensive line to speak of, through much of his career.

Walter Payton

I want to say Terrell Davis but he didnt play long enough so I can't.

Here is where I criticize Barry Sanders. If I had to pay money to watch a great running back I would chose Barry. He was incredible. Balance, speed. BUT if I was building a team I would not chose him. His running style was not effective. He would lose yards on a lot of carries which puts your offense in a hole. Handing the ball to Barry was like throwing on every play, you stood as much chance of losing yardage as going all the way. Give me the back that makes 3 yards every time and puts me in 3rd and short. Barry put to much pressure on the QB to convert long third down plays.

YES!!! Barry Sanders  hands down. Man I loved to watch him run

My number 2 would be Walter Peyton...Emmit had an Offensive Line his entire career.

I agree, Sanders is the best ever.  No one ever did more with less than Barry.  I remember watching him flip over the Bears line, land on his feet, and run to the end zone.  The man was sick.

Barry Sanders is the choice here, I will be very disapointed in you all if he has to go in as a "my choice". If he had played as many years as Emmit he would have 20,000 yards. Oh how he pist me off when he left!!
