The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

Posted on: May 16, 2008 12:37 pm

Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

18th Position- Running Back    Vote for the best Running Back of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choice feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players name, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the position being voted on for that week, as those are the only votes that will count..........So who is our Running Back?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

Hello all, First off...Wow, wasn't expecting to work this hard today. I guess getting the lead in page really draws the people. That being said welcome to all the newcomers, but try not to complain about previous choices especially when you didn't vote.

Second I forget who asked as it was about 7 pages ago and I have been tabulating votes....But yeah I am a Boone County Rebel. Ok now on to the results.....

Results As Of 5/18/08: Barry Sanders- 49, Walter Payton- 31, Earl Cambell- 5, Emmit Smith- 4, Jim Thorpe- 1, Terrel Davis- 1, Mark Van Eghen- 1, LaDanian Tomlinson- 1, Marshall Faulk- 1, Franco Harris- 1, Gale Sayers- 1, Bo Jackson- 1, Red Grange- 1, Eric Dickerson- 1.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

Barry Sanders

The All-Time Rushing Title would belong to Sanders had he run behind an offensive line compared to Emmits Cowboys. That record would be un-touchable.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

BARRY SANDERS....!!!      As a Vikings fan, I remember just being in awe of his amazing talent...   He made it tough to hate the Lions...   The most electrifying & the biggest difference maker in NFL history...    I way he just walked away from the game w/ soooooo much left to still give, you just have to admire him even more....   Record books be damned, Barry was a true stud...   Imagine trying to sleep at night (Emmit Smith) knowing the only reason you are the NFL's all time leading rusher, is because a better man LET you have it....

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A RB

I agree with almost everything here, except the ode to Terrell Davis.  Davis was good, but I think he was more a product of the system than a great back himself.  If Rueben Droughns can run for the same amount of yds as an average TD year, its GOTTA be that zone blocking system.

That being said, since Jim Brown is looked at here as a fullback (which I think is BS....he's a feature back and should be the best RB of all time), then Payton has to be next best.  Best blocking tailback ever!  NO back was ever better at picking up the blitz.  Probably the best receiving back of all time as well.  Tough when he needed to be.  Rarely stopped behind the line as Sanders was.  And that patented Payton leap at the goal line made him the toughest back ever to stop at the goal line.

Barry Sanders

That guy was unbelievable to watch!  He is one of the reasons that I started watching football.  My second vote would go to Walter Payton, but Barry Sanders gets my nomination.

What he could have accomplished with only a few more years.
