Posted on: May 23, 2008 11:41 am

Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

19th Position- Quarter Back    Vote for the best Quarter Back of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choice feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players name, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the position being voted on for that week, as those are the only votes that will count..........So who is our Quarter Back?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

Johnny U
How can you even debate this?

Obviously we have a lot of wet-behind-the-ears voters.

Tom Brady with 4 votes...puleez. Is he even better than Plunkett or Grogan?

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

Just ignore this for the voting DKM. I had to respond to Hawkmans post:

Nice call on Jim Hart, Skydog.  King of Bling mentioned him as well, but I EXPECT that level of greatness from Bling.

I was young, but remember Hart's bombs.

Someone else remembers the Cardiac Cards! I was just a kid, but I saw em! What a team! They'd score 30 - 40 points a game, but  win only 70% of the time!  I was at Busch for the classic Monday Night matchup vs. Tarkentons Vikings. Jim Hart to JV Cain, Mel Gray, Terry Metcalf! Cards eventually lost cause Tark got the last possession, but what a game. 41-38 I believe.

The football Cardinals could never catch a break in the playoffs, but St. Louis loved them!

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

I am not a packers fan, but I think the greatest QB of all time is Brett Favre. He played the game without a doubt, better than anyone in my opinion.  He was the QB you wanted on your team when your team was down 4 points with 2 minutes left in the game.  You knew as a fan of the opposing team that had that 4 point lead, that Favre would drive the ball down the field and throw the winning touchdown.  Watching many Bears vs. Packers games, I became way to familiar knowing the game would end with Favre being the hero.  He threw lasers across the field.  One receiver said that Favre had broken every finger on his hands.

I agree with what Pats12 said about Tom Brady and how he put up stellar numbers without big name receivers.  Vice-versa I hate it when people say a quarterback only was successful because of his receivers, such as the case when people mention Kurt Warner and his success with the Rams from 1999-2001.  Saying anyone could have caught those passes.  If that is the case, then why wouldn't they just put average joes that make minimum wage out there to throw the ball????

Brett Favre won without big name receivers though.  He made his receivers what they were.  Antonio Freeman and Billy Schreoeder were garbage, and it was foretold when they joined other teams and sucked.  His best receiver on any of his teams might have been either Robert Brooks or Donald Driver.

He deserves more than the 5 votes he currently has.

One other, and even though he was the enemy;

The Mad Bomber:

Darrel Lomonica

> choke < Raiders

Got to give it to him!

But if it wasn't for 'stick um' , his numbers wouldn't

have been  as good.

Nice call on Jim Hart, Skydog.  King of Bling mentioned him as well, but I EXPECT that level of greatness from Bling.

I was young, but remember Hart's bombs.

The same way I loved to watch Steve Bartkowski chuck the ball.  There were a lot of memorable QBs before expansion diluted the league.  Heck, memories of Dan Pastorini and Jim Plunkett and Steve Grogan make me hate the dink and dump offenses of the more recent era.  The passing game was a lot more fun when Stanley Morgan and James Lofton were streaking downfield.  I seriously don't know if Randy Moss is any better than any of those older WRs, or if he's just one of the few guys to excel in the deep game in a short game era.  Remember when 20 ypc was a the defining standard for a speed receiver?

sorry, this was about QBs, wasn't it?  What I meant to say was, Nice call on Hart, Skydog.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

My favorite position to read the discussions, because more than any other position, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Gunslingers, scramblers, tacticians, winners - whatever criteria is most important to poster is all that really matters on this one, because a good argument can be made for so many.

For me, it came down to Staubach and Marino.  I hate the Cowboys, but can't argue with Staubach's greatness.  That said, my vote goes to

Dan Marino.  Bad commercials and Ace Ventura movies aside, he had the arm and the football IQ, even if he lacked mobility.  I wonder where the Dolphins would have been with David Woodley QBing for them.  Marino took what Dan Fouts gave and did it all again, just better.

I have to go with some props for ol' grandpa on my honorable mention.  He was a Starr and Staubach guy, but always thought Archie Manning had more talent than either of them - he just ended up getting pounded like David Carr his entire career and never had a real opportunity to showcase his talents.

My favorite QB to watch has to be Brett Favre.  He had every attribute you'd want in a QB, except maybe discretion.  He took a ton of chances, and in the end, what made him great also kept him from being at the top of my list.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

You stated that you cant make the selections based on championships and yet you have Dan Marino as #8 on your list.??

The only reason others consider him one of the top 2 or 3 all time is cause he didnt win any titles which was due in part to a lack of a decent running game and a solid defense.
