The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

Posted on: May 23, 2008 11:41 am

Ok, here is the deal, every Friday I will post a new Blog in which we will choose the greatest player ever at a certain position. Until the next position is posted CBS members may vote for who they think the greatest ever is, at the end of the voting I will calculate every ones votes and will add that player to The Greatest Team Ever. I hope lots of you participate because I think this could be fun. I will try to post a running tally in a comment every day.

19th Position- Quarter Back    Vote for the best Quarter Back of all time!! Please post your vote in a comment, if you wish to give some insight on your choice feel free to do so. Please start your post with the players name, and please make sure that you are naming someone who played the position being voted on for that week, as those are the only votes that will count..........So who is our Quarter Back?

Please remember to rate this blog entry, and all comments as I appear to be losing value points for doing this blog, I happen to believe a lot of you enjoy it however, so I will continue even though I may be a rookie by the time it is over!

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

Tom Brady will be the best in my opinion but as of right now that belongs to Joe Montana.

Elway hands down.  He would excel in any system and can carry a team with his arm, mobility, and moxie.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

Well thats it. This has been the best blog on CBS. I'd like to thank DKM for the time and effort he put in for us.  Great job DKM. Well done.

But it doesn't have to end. How about a " The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A Shortstop" DKM?

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

John Unitas
If you doubt he was the greatest QB of all time - consider just one of his accomplishments:
He threw a Touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games! This was back when they ran the ball 70 - 75% of the time. 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Real smash mouth Dick Butkus style football.  None of these modern "protect the multi-millionaire quarterback" rules either.

Brett Farve is second with only 34 straight games. Not even close. I believe Johnny Unitas' record of 47 straight games with a TD pass will stand long after other "unbreakable" records like Dimaggio's 56 game hit streak is broken. When Johnny U retired, he held most every passing record. Its true many of Unitas' records have been broken, largely due to the rule changes. Not this one. Its still a level playiing field for this record. Its a lasting testament of  how truly extraordnary Johnny U was on a game to game, year to year basis.

The cover of  Sports Illustrated dedicated to Unitas after his death in 2002 reads. "Johnny Unitas - The Greatest There Ever Was." I strongly agree.

The Greatest Of All Time Team Needs A QB

One guy I haven't seen mentioned and it is because of his lack of winning is Archie Manning. He played on the god awfullest teams but had more talent than about any QB I've ever seen. He even won an MVP if I'm not mistaken. Put ANY QB metioned here on the Aints of his era and they wouldn't be given a second thought. Football is more about your team than any other sport , so given the amount of talent listed at each position here , Archie would also be a great choice.

John Elway- the only QB to start 5 super bowls. and he was one tough SOB, played his entire career without his ACL in one of his knees (lost it in high school). you just cant beat The Drive, or any of his 47 comeback wins.

Taking everything into account, I would take Favre surrounded by this amount of talent. He's a football player that just happens to be a quarterback and I don't think there has ever been a quarterback that has gotten more respect from his opponents than Farve. That with his natural leadership and argueably the strongest arm ever at the position and you've got the ideal gladiator at QB.
