Others on watch list: Richmond, Northern Iowa, Old Dominion, Utah St., Louisville, California

New this week: Michigan St., Tennessee, Oklahoma St.
Dropped out: Virginia Tech, Florida St., Wake Forest

This is a correctional poll. Since teams have been beating each other left and right, I decided that moving them up and down based on what they did last week resulted in a non-sense ranking - so I just re-did it instead.  That said, most movements did work out to correspond to results (I guess my old poll wasn't that bad).

Kansas: I went with the "it is just one game" approach.  They lost a conference game on the road to my #22.  They are still #1 in my ratings.  I still think they are better than 'Cuse.

Syracuse's dominance over 'Nova validated two things for me - one, that 'Cuse is one of the top two teams in the country, and secondly, that Villanova was overrated.

Kentucky: I went with the "this loss verifies my score ratings" approach.... so they are at #5.

Purdue was playing witb so much efficiency and poise, I thought they were going to the Final Four.  The loss to Michigan State showed how much Hummel meant to this team.  A real bummer for the Boilers.

Maryland:  Maryland is quietly becoming the team that was ranked pre-season.  I am told I missed a great double overtime showdown between VT and Maryland where Vasquez showed off his dominance.

College Basketball Rankings - Week 16

Curious on how far you see Kansas St going in the tourney.  My feeling is that they can be elite 8 or flame out, in the round of 32. I feel the same way.  They can play really well but I am not convinced they can do it consistently enough to win 4-5 in a row against good teams.

But you could say the same for about 40 teams - at differing levels.  The only two that show relative consistency is Kansas and Syracuse.  I'd pick those two to the Final Four - and then we could start tossing coins among the next 12 who could go anywhere from sweet sixteen to final four.  Then another coin toss for the 30 who could do anywhere from losing in the first round to going to the elite eight.

Just hoping the Illini can make the Tourney.   Need Butler, Zags to win their own conference tourney and and not allow a bd to be taken
Yeah, it sucks that they couldn't take care of business last Saturday.  They played only 6 minutes.  Six freakin minutes!  And they scored 28 points in 6 minutes - twice as much as in the entire first half.  It was an utterly ridiculous game.

We can beat Ohio State.  Not likely, but doable - if we play well.  Will we? Not likely.

Come on, where's the school spirit? Oh, I'll be rooting for my team - but considering the last two games' peformance, the chances that we beat Ohio State at their house are slim.  I am also a realist... :)

Ohio State has the toughest opponent - Illinois.... who isn't that tough.Come on, where's the school spirit?

I thought you would definitely bash me for dropping Kentucky but not Kansas.... Nope.  We deserved to drop.  Letting Tennessee go on an 18-0 run.  Pffffft.  (not to say Kansas shouldn't have dropped 1 tiny spot....Smile)

I was thinking Final Four, the way they were playing before Hummel went down.  Now?  They can probably still make the sweet 16 but doubt they get further.
Same here.  They went from Final Four to...... maybe Sweet Sixteen.  They could lose in the 2nd round depending on the matchup.

LOL!  I thought you would definitely bash me for dropping Kentucky but not Kansas.... I do have a method... although I am not certain that is clear for most people.  Thanks :)

It is a likely three way tie. Ohio State has the toughest opponent - Illinois.... who isn't that tough.  Purdue and MSU both have two left that they should handle.  That will put all three at 14-4.  Wisconsin and illinois for 4 and 5.

It is more of a question now how far can Purdue go in the tourney.  I was thinking Final Four, the way they were playing before Hummel went down.  Now?  They can probably still make the sweet 16 but doubt they get further.

I bet you think I'm gonna ask why is Kentucky ranked #5?  Nope.  Looking at your standings this week, I'm starting to see the method to the madness.  Keep up the good work.  Awesome rankings.

P.S.  Without Hummel, who is winning the Big Ten now?  Michigan State?  Ohio State?  Other?  Purdue (doubt it)?
