Ok, I'm a day late with this. When I set the original deadline for 8 a.m. yesterday, I forgot I was going to Sesame Place with the family. Nobody voted after that time so it doesn't matter. Here are the results from the first round. No upsets in the first round, and not surprisingly, the #1 seeds shutout their opponents. Indy vs Infineon was the closest, personally I like Infineon better, but I'm not surprised that Indy wone.

Non-Geographically Associated Group 1

#1 Bristol (20) vs. #8 Phoenix (0)
#2 Talladega (19) vs #7 Auto Club Speedway (1)
#3 Indianapolis (11) vs. #6 Infineon Raceway (9)
#4 Martinsville (15) vs #5 Las Vegas Motor Speedway (5)

Non-Geographically Associated Group 2

#1 Daytona  (20) vs. #8 Kansas Speedway (0)
#2 Atlanta (16) vs #7 Homestead-Miami Speedway (4)
#3  Richmond (14) vs. #6 Dover (6)
#4  Darlington (12) vs #5 Lowe's (8)

So now we go onto Round 2. I think the matchups in this round will be a little harder to choose. Once again I won't vote, that way if there is a tie, I will cast a vote to break the tie. Polls close at 8 a.m. next Monday,.

Non-Geographically Associated Group 1

#1 Bristol  vs.#4 Martinsville
#2 Talladega  vs #3 Indianapolis

Non-Geographically Associated Group 2

#1 Daytona   vs. #4 Darlington
#2 Atlanta vs #3 Richmond

What is the Best NASCAR Cup Series Track? Round 2

Results are in, and in an upset, number 1 seeded Daytona loses to #4 seeded Darlington. The other matchups weren't even close. This week will be a bit tougher to make the choices, expecially in Group 2

Non-Geographically Associated Group 1

#1 Bristol (20) vs.#4 Martinsville (3)
#2 Talladega (18) vs #3 Indianapolis (5)

Non-Geographically Associated Group 2

#1 Daytona (10)  vs. #4 Darlington (13)
#2 Atlanta (2) vs #3 Richmond (21)

On to the next round

What is the Best NASCAR Cup Series Track? Round 2

I had a write in vote for the K-1 Go-Cart Track by my house but took it out. Nothing like seeing the horse power of a lawn mower attached to the frame what appears to be a race car. Thanks Again for the Blog, should be fun to see how these turn out.

 Group 1

 Martinsville

 Indianapolis

Group 2

 Darlington

 Richmond

Group 1, have to go with Bristol over Martinsville.  I've been to Bristol and 160,000 fans twice a year can't be wrong!  I'll take Indy over Talledega for no good reason, maybe just to get it a vote, plus, one restrictor plate track in the finals is enough.

Group 2, I have to go with Daytona.  Biggest race to start the year and of the two restrictor plate tracks, it's the one I like best.  Richmond is the other choice, mainly because I'll get to be there in a week.

All these tracks are good though.  Picking isn't going to get easier in the next round.

Non-Geographically Associated Group 1

#1 Bristol  vs.#4 Martinsville
#2 Talladega
vs #3 Indianapolis (holding my nose voting for Indy stock car racing, but anything beats plate racing:)

Non-Geographically Associated Group 2

#1 Daytona   vs. #4 Darlington (ditto)
#2 Atlanta vs #3 Richmond (not an easy call; actually, they were all kind of tough calls except for Bristol being a slam dunk)

Congrats on your rapid rise from "amateur", Section.  Good to c-ya back in your rightful spot on the top shelf.

Bristol vs Martinsville was the hardest one for me, but night racing at Bristol is just good rubbing, er.. I mean racing.  Indianapolis just wan't made for NASCAR racing, that is why she must go, especially with the latest debacle with the tires.

Really hard to take out Daytona, but restricter plates have changed the race too much and Darlington is just too good with too much history.
