Who is the all-time best driver. Round 3

Onto Round 3. Minor upset in Round 2 with Rusty Wallace losing out to Fireball Roberts in a 9-7 win. Some good matchups this week, Cal Yarborough vs. Junior Johnson, Boby Allison vs. Ned Jarrett, Jeff Gordon vs Herb Thomas, and Lee Petty vs Buck Baker. I think the #1's will all advance, do any of the 2 seeds fall?

Group 1

#1 Richard Petty vs. #6 Fireball Roberts
#2 Cale Yarborough vs. #4 Junior Johnson

Group 2

#1 David Pearson vs. #4 Bill Elliott
#2 Bobby Allison vs. #3 Ned Jarrett

Group 3

#1 Darrell Waltrip vs. #4 Tim Flock
#2 Jeff Gordon vs. #3 Herb Thomas

Group 4

#1 Dale Earnhardt vs. #4 Jimmie Johnson
#2 Lee Petty vs. #3 Buck Baker

I probably will irritate some with my picks, but I believe the question to be all-time "best" driver, not the most victories, championships, etc.... Otherwise, why even do the contest? ( I wasn't posting during round 1, but if I had, there would have been a 5th vote for Tim Richmond. Nothing against Elliott, but he is being rewarded here for longevity...and those 16 most popular driver contests. )

These are getting tougher and tougher, as they should. A potential Petty, Yarborough match up in the semi's just seems too early for either one of them to go out. But we'll see if they even amke it that far.

Herb Thomas & Lee Petty were tough to eliminate for me but I had to make a choice.

RFG - As far as Bill Elliot being "weak" if you are referring to him today you are correct. There was a time when nobody could touch Bill Elliott. It got so bad NASCAR had to change the rules so others would have a chance. He is the only driver that I know about that came from TWO (2) laps down at Talladega, BEFORE this free pass garbage, to win a race. I think it was '84 or '85 but I can't remember for sure...bluejay

Who is the all-time best driver. Round 3

#1 Richard Petty The King
#2 Cale Yarborough The Prince

Group 2

#1 David Pearson Just because Elliot is weak and should have never had made it this far.

#3 Ned Jarrett He does deserve this spot.

Group 3

#1 Darrell Waltrip Let's go Racin' Boys!
#2 Jeff Gordon Wins this lineup, but will lose against Darrell by a large margin.

Group 4

#1 Dale Earnhardt  Jimmie still has a long time to go, nevermind that Dale Earnhart is my seed to win the whole thing.
#3 Buck Baker These 2 were even, I'm giving the underdog the benefit of the doubt.

Hawks - Frady is free to voice his opinion. If I weren't such a nice guy I could remove his response and not count his vote until he came to his senses, but I won't do that. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, it doesn't matter how wrong or dilusional it may be.
