Here's who I have so far

American League

C   Joe Mauer --- Minnesota Twins
1B Justin Morneau --- Minnesota Twins
2B Ian Kinsler --- Texas Rangers
3B Joe Crede --- Chicago White Sox
SS Michael Young --- Texas Rangers
OF Josh Hamilton --- Texas Rangers
OF Grady Sizemore --- Cleveland Indians
OF Milton Bradley --- Texas Rangers
DH Hideki Matsui --- New York Yankees

Quick Analysis -  I know, I'm thinking the same thing.  What are 4 Texas Rangers doing in that list?  I couldn't explain it myself, but all 4 are playing very well in the first half of the season.  Other things of interest, one Yankee player and zero, count them, zero Boston Red Sox players, don't ask me why.

National League

C   Geovany Soto --- Chicago Cubs
1B Lance Berkman --- Houston Astros
2B Chase Utley --- Philadelphia Phillies
3B Chipper Jones --- Atlanta Braves
SS Hanley Ramirez --- Florida Marlins
OF Nate McLouth --- Pittsburgh Pirates
OF Ryan Ludwick --- St. Louis Cardinals
OF Ryan Braun --- Milwaukee Brewers
DH (who would play DH?)

Quick Analysis - Nothing really too outlandish.  Maybe you haven't heard of McLouth and Ludwick, but they are having great years.  We'll see what the fans think, what do you all think?

ONE Red Sox player only? Whew! I understand that the Sox had at least one player (Jason Varitek) who got in with player/coaches/managers votes - which is something of an excuse; but there are some other really solid players - like Youkilis and Pedroia who should definitely be included.

Your picks are pretty close to mine, although I have to replace Berkman with Pujols (I'm a Cardinals fan), otherwise, right on! Who would you pick for pitchers?

Ryan Howard / David Ortiz comparisons:

As far as fielding goes at least Howard owns a 1st Basemans mitt;might not be the next Keith Hernandez but during inter-league play in an N.L.park he's relegated to a pinch hitter.Howard had a .989 fielding pct. through 6/15 tied with Carlos Delgado for 2nd in N.L.with 7 errors. Only Joey Votto had more with 8.I have to give a slight edge in "speed"or lack thereof to Howard. It would be even except for the poor condition of Ortiz's knees;Howard also has age on his side.Hitting;edge goes to Ortiz. He's capable of hitting for avg.,he's also proved more than capable at hitting in the clutch;Howard has proved quite the contrary i.e. last season's NLDS.We may be looking at the beginning of the end for"Big 'but Hurt' Papi",only time will tell.Howard on the other hand, forbidding injury, has many, many years of 30+homers ahead of him. When refering to a hitter friendly home park consider Ortiz came up & was labeled a bust his first few yrs.w/ Minnesota 'til he found a home in Fenway.

My All Star selections

First off what drew me to this particular blog;I saw the symbol for my fantasy team(Dagreatwons)(The Best Damn Fantasy League Period).I never favored fan voting because a lot of fans vote for their favorite players regardless of performance.i.e.Although I'm sure it was a sentimental gesture because he retired 2 mos.prior to the game, Mike Schmidt.I know the N.B.A.had "Magic"come and play an All-Star game after he retired however, the N.B.A.IS NOT in my opinion anywhere near the National Pastime.Pardon me for not knowing the yr.this occured with Michael Jack, maybe '87."Anywho"here are my All-Star picks:A.L. C-Mauer,1B-Giambi,2B-Kinsler,3B-Rodriguez,SS-Young,OF-Hamilton,OF-Quentin,OF-Bradley,DH-Matsui. N.L. C-McCann,1B-Berkman,2B-Utley,3B-Ramirez,SS-Tejada,OF-McLouth,OF-Ludwick,OF-Beltran.By far the hot corner in both leagues are the toughest choices. As far as who DH's in the Senior Circuit take your pick from:Braun,Bay,Burrell,C.Lee,Nady,Dunn,or C.Young.I also have 4 Rangers in my starting lineup. If anyone out there haven't heard of McLouth & Ludwick they're not baseball fans on my level.

Well you can't vote for bradley at DH because he is listed in the OF section of the voting...as far as howard your assesment is the same one many people could make about ortiz...Im not sure what your talking about howard not walking though...he is on pace to break 100 walks again this year for the third straight year in a row he actually walks pretty much the same as ortiz does...basically they are the same player in different leagues...can't field, can't run, walk the same, benefit from hitters parks and get their rbi's because of stacked lineups...i also never said you were the one who was talking up ortiz...just said it was ironic a member of RSN would criticize howard yet his fellow fan base has put the exact same type of player this year in the overall lead for voters in all of the AL not just his position...surely you wouldn't call your fellow fans out though?

Im not saying Howard should be in because lets face it he shouldn't...but i find it ironic that a Red Sox fan who is part of the nation that has david ortiz leading the votes in the AL would criticize Howard considering the number 1 argument from red sox fans has been well ortiz isn't hitting for average but he was tops in homeruns and rbi's for DH's before he got hurt...yet Howard despite how bad his average is finds himself tied for tops for first basemen in homeruns, rbi's and second in runs scored...but he is the least valuable player in the NL.

I also think I would take Burrell over Braun...and probably Jason Bay over both of them

but i think braun deserves to start over burrell

now I may be a bit biased because Pat Burrell is the leading scorer on my most important fantasy team, but the number that stands out most to me is OBP. Burrel is at an amazing .425 where Braun is at a mediocure .316. and then quetin and sizemore are virtually identical
