Hey music mavens,

For those of you who heard a song on the radio and went, "Oh God, I know this song but I don't know who sings it" or "I don't know what it's called", here is the place to get your answer.  Simply submit some lyrics you heard in the song and any other helpful information and I (or other posters) will try and find some answers for you.

THE 'WHAT'S THAT SONG?' HELP DESK

Thanks for trying, Rhino; but that's not it.  Its opening sounded EXACTLY like they used a cheap Casio, much like the one used in "The Lapdance Is So Much Better When The Stripper's Crying" by the Bloodhound Gang.  Yep, it's that cheap.

And from what I remember, the song never picked up in tempo.  It stayed very, very slow and soft throughout.  The singer didn't pick up in volume with her voice; it was soft throughout the song, like she was trying to lull you to sleep.  If I wasn't at work when I heard this song I would have dropped off.

Thanks again.. can't win 'em all!

Retro,
Just taking a shot here.
Check out Another Sad Love Song by Toni Braxton. It came out in '93 and it does sound a lot like something even I could play on my Casio (and I can't play much!). And she does have a similar style to Sade.
There is a video on youtube so that's probably the easiest way to check it out.
Let me know if that's the one.

THE 'WHAT'S THAT SONG?' HELP DESK

One more... this is probably the vaguest of hints.. but it probably came out in 1993.  I remember hearing it a lot on the radio with "River Of Dreams" by Billy Joel.  It's an R&B song, very slow, and it sounded like Sade (but I don't think it was her, can't be sure).  It had the same kind of slow, soulful sound that she brings to her songs.  I don't know any words at all, but the rhythm sounded like it came from a VERY cheap little Casio keyboard, one that I could easily emulate (and I'm not a master at the keyboards).  As I said, it was very slow, and would just about put you to sleep.  The background began with (and repeatedly ran throughout the song) with B E B C DCCB... (for those that can read music notes).

Any wizzes out there that think they can figure this one out?

I don't know Rhino. I think you know the lyrics to every song ever. Least it seems that way to me.

THE 'WHAT'S THAT SONG?' HELP DESK

No problem at all retro. I'm glad that I could help.
That's what is so great about this site. Lots of people with similar interests. Just from reading some of the posts on these music threads sparks lots of memories of songs that I had long forgotten about.

Thanks for starting this blog. I'm sure I'll eventually be posting something in here looking for some help.

Damn Rhino, that's it on the nose!  Excellent work!  Thanks a million!

I barely heard it at the time it came out, but it sounded like some one-hit-wonder band or something, what with the harmonizing chorus.  I forgot about it all these years, then I heard it playing on muzak, and I HAD to find out who it was.. but I didn't know much lyrics.  Usually if I know some lyrics I can google them or something.  But I didn't know enough.  Cool beans; thanks a billion!!!

THE 'WHAT'S THAT SONG?' HELP DESK

Retro,
I'm pretty sure that you're thinking of the song "My Brave Face" by Paul McCartney.
It's from his 1989 album "Flowers in the Dirt".
At the end he says, "My brave, my brave, my brave face"
Here are the lyrics:

My Brave Face.
I've Been Living In Style
Unaccustomed As I Am To The Luxury Life.
I've Been Hitting The Town And It Didn't Hit Back.

I've Been Doing The Rounds
Unaccustomed As I Am To The Time On My Hands.
Now I Don't Have To Tell Anybody When I'm Gonna Get Back.

Ever Since You Went Away I've Had This Sentimental
Inclination Not To Change A Single Thing.
As I Pull The Sheets Back On The Bed I Want To Go Bury My Head
In Your Pillow.

Chorus:
Now That I'm Alone Again, I Can't Stop Breaking Down Again,
The Simplest Things Set Me Off Again
And Take Me To That Place
Where I Can't Find My Brave Face
Where I Can't Find My Brave Face
My Brave, My Brave, My Brave Face.

I've Been Living A Lie
Unaccustomed As I Am
To The Work Of A Housewife,
I've Been Breaking Up
Dirty Dishes And Throwing Them Away.

Ever Since You Left I Have Been Trying To
Compose A "Baby Will You Please Come Home" Note
Meant For You.
As I Clear Away Another
Untouched Tv Dinner
From The Table I Laid For Two.

Now That I'm Alone Again
I Can't Stop Breaking Down Again,
The Simplest Things Set Me Off Again
And Take Me To That Place
Where I Can't Find My Brave Face,
Where I Can't Find My Brave Face,
My Brave, My Brave, My Brave Face.
My Brave Face.

THE 'WHAT'S THAT SONG?' HELP DESK

Now I've got one, if anyone is out there that can answer;

I don't know the band or the song name.  But during the chorus it sounds like they're saying "Now that I'm alone again, Can't start breaking down again", and at the end of the chorus it sounds like they're saying "I prayed, I prayed, I.. prayed.. babe..."  Or something like that.  Whatever it is, it sounds VERY mid-eighties.

Thanks for any help.

THE 'WHAT'S THAT SONG?' HELP DESK

I've got one.  The song is called "Give it to me good" sung by a early ninety's hair band.  This is one of those "I know who sings it, but can't spit it out"  This one has been bugging me for a couple of weeks now.

Looking forward to your help.
