GOOD OLD SLASHER FLICKS FROM YESTERYEAR

Hey gang.

Back in the '70s and '80s were good times to be horror fans.  Drive-ins were cranking them out in the '70s, then with the advent of cable tv we were catching them late at night on HBO, Showtime, Movie Channel, etc. in the '80s, and renting them on VHS or Beta (or laserdisc!) from the old Mom and Pop video stores.  I sometimes see old horror movie posters or VHS covers, and I get nostalgic goosebumps and a warm fuzzy feeling.  Share with me your favorite flicks from back then.  They can be ones everyone's heard of, or they can be truly hidden gems that almost no one has heard of, but should seek out.

So don the hockey mask, arm yourself with a machete/chainsaw/pitchfork/butcher knife/whatever and prepare for some primo slicin' and dicin'!  Ch-ch-ch-ch ha-ha-ha-ha!

Texas Chainsaw Massacre's best moment is when the gal stumbles into the room with the bones everywhere.  And where she ALMOST gets away, and Leatherface drags her back and impales her on a hook.  Eww!!!

That flick had almost no blood in it, but people still got nightmares from it.

If I had to rate a film as the scariest of all time, I would have to go with The Exorcist.

This wasn't much of a "slasher" film, but it use to scare the shit out of me as a teen(I think about to show my age), I thought The Gate was friggin scary!

And another not so old horror film that freaked me out was Waxworks.

Oh... and just until a couple years ago I couldn't watch The Exorcist without having really bad day/nightmares.

Hey Retro! I was16 when I saw LHOTL and it was like nothing I had seen before. It and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre were the first of those type of gore movies to come out and it looked like it was shot with a home movie camera which added to the chill affect IMO. Oh yeah , Isaw it at the movie theater when it first came out in '74.

Halloween, Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes were all great classics.  I would love to go back in time and went to a theater to see Halloween back in '78.  Probably the scene that moviegoers would have remembered best is the scene after she stabs Michael in the neck with the needle, and she thinks he's dead.  She turns around to catch her breath, and he slowly sits up and looks over at her.  Then he starts slowly following her.  Creepy back then, to be sure!

I would also like to go back in time to 1980 to see the first Friday The 13th, and seen how many girls squeezed all the blood out of their boyfriends' arms in terror when Jason jumps out of the lake to pull the girl out of the canoe.  CLASSIC!

A couple I will always love are Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and My Bloody Valentine.  And though it's not a slasher per se, I also love Humanoids From The Deep.

Brick,

I think Last House had some good moments, but overall was not a very good movie.  Especially the parts involving the dopey lawmen, which was primarily the comic relief amid all the grisly goings-on, a pretty bad contrast.  But I gotta admit, David Hess (who also sang the song "The Road Leads To Nowhere") is one of the all-time great villians of the movie screen.

I have to say that one of my all time favorites is the original Hills Have Eyes.  The Friday 13th series was also great along with Halloween.  The Last House on the Left was crazy although not an actual slasher movie, definitly give the goosebumps though...
