GREAT PIZZA JOINT(S) IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS

More bad-for-you goodness:

Now let's share our favorite pizza restaurants that we frequent.  I'm hoping for something with local flavor, and not a Round Table or a Papa Murphy's (though PM does have some very good ones), unless you absolutely can't think of anything better.  Black Olives, Onions, Salami, Ham, Pineapple (not my preference, but a lot of people love it), Green Peppers, Italian Sausage, Beef, Mozzarella, Cheddar, Feta, Parmesan sprinkles, Romano, Pepperoni, Canadian Bacon, Bacon Bits, etc. makes my mouth water anytime of the day.

Or you can talk about great pizza parlors of the past that you used to frequent that are (sniff) no longer there.  I had numerous pizza parlors near me back in the late '70s/early '80s that had killer pizza and great arcade rooms.  Basketball/baseball/soccer parties were the norm at those places.

Dig in paisanos!

GREAT PIZZA JOINT(S) IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS

If I ever get the itch to go on a cross-country road trip, I will do my best to visit all these pizza places!

Downtown Portland has some pretty good ones too.  I can't remember the names of all of them though.

Gonna start thinkin' about the next "food" blog.. hmm... (drool)

And if you cut round pizzas into squares, you should be shot on sight, well okay, maybe not shot, but at least mercilessly ridiculed.

ROFLMAO. mjoll that is too funny because here in Muncie, IN there is a place called Pizza King that ALL locals are obsessed with as the best pizza ever.  First of all, it is like a saltine cracker with tomato paste on it, sprinkle some cheese, and call it a pizza.  Secondly, they cut it into tiny little squares.  Dumbest thing that I have ever seen for pizza.  GIVE ME A TRIANGLE, OR GIVE ME DEATH, OR JUST A PAPER-CUT!!!!!!

They even have a few tours in the city now where you can go to 10 pizzerias all over the city to taste.  The  places change on a regular basis.

YLG, I am glad that you mentioned this.  I am coming to NYC in late July to visit a buddy.  I may try to take Mrs. Vols on one of these tours.  Thanks for the tip.

Elkhart, Indiana = 1st--Colombo's Pizzeria, 2nd--Milanos Pizza

Muncie, Indiana = 1st--Greeks Pizza, 2nd--Mancino's Pizza and Grinders (chain found in Midwest)

Chicago, Illinois = Giordano's hands down, nothing compares.

Fort Myers, Florida = Nino's Italian Ristorante.

GREAT PIZZA JOINT(S) IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS

Another great blog Retro.

We have this place called Pangea's Pizza in downtown TC.  Sometimes on weekends, my buddies and I bike into town and hang out for awhile.  We usually eat lunch at Pangea's.  They have a deal where you can pick any five toppings on a large pizza for under 20 bucks (not exactly sure on the price b/c we always get breadsticks or something and split the cost).  Last time, we had bacon, ham, pineapple, black olives, and water chestnuts.  It was actually quite good.

Also, there's Jet's.  If anyone has had a Hawaiian pizza better than Jet's, I'd like to know!

^ I'm not sure if these are just local places or if they have joints all across the country...I think Jet's is a nationwide or at least statewide franchise, but idk about Pangea's...

I feel sorry for everyone who thinks Pizza Hut, Papa Johns and the like are actually good.

Yeah Papa John's leaves much to be desired.  Pizza Hut's not bad though...

They even have a few tours in the city now where you can go to 10 pizzerias all over the city to taste.

Wow I need to visit NYC sometime and try these pizzas!

One last mention.  The Little Caesar's $5 Hot N Ready Pizza is an insane deal.  The pizza is pretty good too, its just not special good (word choice) like the local places.

GREAT PIZZA JOINT(S) IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS

Sadly, I haven't found any truly good pizza in my neighborhood, or anywhere else in Atlanta, for that matter.  My favorite pizza place of all time is Nicky's on Mamaroneck Ave in White Plains, NY.  Used to stop there on my way home from school all the time, back when you could get a slice for $.75, or sicilian for a buck.  I think to qualify as a real pizzeria, you have to sell by the slice, as well as whole pies.  And if you cut round pizzas into squares, you should be shot on sight, well okay, maybe not shot, but at least mercilessly ridiculed.

GREAT PIZZA JOINT(S) IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS

Since I live in New York City there are way too many to list. I feel sorry for everyone who thinks Pizza Hut, Papa Johns and the like are actually good. How those chains survive here I do not know. They even have a few tours in the city now where you can go to 10 pizzerias all over the city to taste.  The  places change on a regular basis.

Dang retro , you looking for some good food and movies to hole up for a while?

I'd like to!  I just suddenly started thinking about food blogs after the bad movies blog.  Bad movies=cheese=burgers and pizza.  See how my mind works?

Gotta get to bed, but here's a couple of mine that are good stuff:

Flying Pie Pizza-small chain with shops in Lake Oswego, SW and SE Portland, I believe.

Best pizza hands down here is Monicles. A place called Indians Pizza is pretty good also.
