HOW'D YOUR NBA TEAM DO IN THE DRAFT?

Posted on: June 27, 2008 6:11 am

This blog is pretty self-explanatory.  Did your team draft who you wanted?  Did they make the right moves to trade up/trade down?  How is your team set now?  What else do they need to do?  Are you in better/worse shape than last year?  Should your GM be praised/run out of town?  Details, people!

HOW'D YOUR NBA TEAM DO IN THE DRAFT?

I agree that McHale is a rotten GM but honestly, the Wolves have needs nearly everywhere.  I think Love will be a good piece to the incomplete puzzle.  It's gonna take a couple more high draft picks before they can contend again.  Or have Danny Ainge come to the Twin Cities and pull the trigger on some incredible deal that brings you a chamionship.  But whoever the GM is, they won't steer them into success overnight.  It'll take a few more seasons or so.  Be patient.

HOW'D YOUR NBA TEAM DO IN THE DRAFT?

I have been a wolve's fan since the team formed and I have  to say "We need to get rid of McHale!!"  An excellent player, a horrible GM.  Other than Garnett, name a draft pick that has worked out for Minny.  Whenever we trade, we through in our first round pick and get crap!!  I was pretty excited when we took Mayo only to find out we traded him to Memphis???  Thats right, we don't want any allstars here, so lets trade them away!

Disappointed again in MN

Bearsfan,

The Bulls and the Heat probably had the best draft.  The 3 second round picks you gave us will make good bargaining chips for next year, when we improve our team even further.  We had a great draft too and should see 50 wins.  Good luck to your Bulls this year.

HOW'D YOUR NBA TEAM DO IN THE DRAFT?

Well, I can't complain about my teams draft.  We got the best player coming out, Derrick Rose, and a developmental big man, Omer Asik!!  We had to give up three 2nd round picks to get him, but if has as talented and athletic as they say, he'll be worth it!!  All John Paxson has to do now is package together a couple of players (will probably include either Kirk Hinrich or Ben Gordon) for someone who can score down low!!  I'm hoping the gamble of hiring a coach, who's never coached before, pays off.  I know Vinny Del Negro was a decent player, but I would have felt better about the hire if he had at least been an assistant coach for a couple of years.  I'm kind of hoping they hire someone like Paul Westphal for an assistant coach.  At least that way if they have to can Vinny, they can hand over the reigns to someone who's had experience.  Go Bulls!!

HOW'D YOUR NBA TEAM DO IN THE DRAFT?

Getting rid of Shaq was huge.  I am grateful that he helped the Heat win a championship, but his declining play and contract were going to handcuff the Heat for the next few years.  Now there is hope.

A few months ago, I was on a plane flight from Tampa to DC.  I noticed an NBA championship ring on the guy sitting next to me.  He looked to be in his 50s.  I asked him about it, and it turns out I was sitting next to Kevin Grevey, who went to Kentucky and started on the Bullets championship team in the 1970s.  He said he is a scout for the Lakers now.  I told him I was a Heat fan, and we talked about hoops and the Shaq trade.  He said it was a great move for the Heat.  I said that when I first heard the rumors, I hoped that the deal would get done quickly before the Suns came to their senses.  That being said, I am not surprised that the Suns exited in the first round of the playoffs.

HOW'D YOUR NBA TEAM DO IN THE DRAFT?

I'm a Cavs fan and I have only heard of one of the 3 they drafted ,I don't think they did anything to help LeBron out in this draft , Maybe the free agent market or trades is what Danny Farry is looking at . But the last trade didn't do any good so only time will tell

Yeah, St.Pete, you guys did good.  I'm not really sold on Mayo, so I'm glad we only moved a little bit up to get Bayless.  I'm a big fan of Chalmers and Beasley, so I agree your win total should jump quite a bit from last year, especially as you said with a healthy Wade.  I'm especially glad you got rid of Shaq.  He has nothing left in the tank.  Good luck this year.

HOW'D YOUR NBA TEAM DO IN THE DRAFT?

I'm a Heat fan (since their inception and inaugural 17 game losing streak), and I believe they made the right move by drafting Michael Beasley.  I was worried that they would make a trade or draft O.J. Mayo, but I think he will be a good fit with D-Wade.

I also think they made a good move by trading a couple of future picks for Mario Chalmers, the Kansas point guard.  He is known for his defense, and he has a chance to get some playing time as a rookie.

The Heat still have a lot of work to do.  It's amazing that a team that won the title in '06 has so many needs.  They might be shopping Udonis Haslem, Shawn Marion, and Marcus Banks.  I think Miami will be better than last year, considering they went 15-67.  I see a huge improvement from doormat to mediocrity.  They should at least double their win total, provided Wade is healthy.
