Steelers corner, Bryant McFadden, who was injured during this past Sundays game will be out on Sunday against the New York Giants.  McFadden showed up at the training center today with his arm in a sling and an apparent soft cast on his arm.  McFadden, who has started five games this season, has been responsible for registering 30 tackles and 2 interceptions.  No word on exactly how long he'll be out.

No word yet on Strong Safety Troy Polamalu, who was hurt in the same play.

momluvs -

Thursday you say? Great! I'll read your preview then write the exact opposite for the Giants ! !  Just kidding.

Can't wait to read it. I'm really pumped for this game Sunday - already told the kids that daddy's locking himself in the basement at 4 o'clock. If necessary, I'll have them watch "The FLY" to scare them into staying upstairs.

The Interception That Wasn't nearly gave me a heart attack.  I thought for sure the refs had just given the game away at that point.

But I think I misspoke - the play I am thinking of happened against someone else, maybe the Denver AFC Championship game.  You mentioned flying, I love when he goes jumping over the offensive line to get in the backfield!

That's why I wanted to strangle Herm Edwards when he brought up about having the players cut their hair.

Yep, can't wait to see your take on the upcoming game.  I'll be posting my thoughts on

If I had one play (and perhaps this is the one you're talking about), it would be the interception that wasn't an interception against the Colt's in the playoffs.  (We all knew it was an interception despite what the refs say).  Troys ability not only to get to the receiver but also come up with the ball.

However, if you were to mention him, what comes to mind is not so much a specific play, but the way he gets to the receiver flying to making the tackle...literally flying to make the tackle.

Is anyone familiar with the Grateful Dead Song "Samson & Delilah"?

Delilah she climbed up on Samson's knee,
Said "tell me where your strength lies, if you please?"
Well she spoke so kind and she talked so fair,
Well Samson said, "Delilah you can cut off my hair"
"You can shave my head - as clean as my hand
My strength comes as natural, as any ol' man".

If I had my way, I would tear this old building down.

See you at 4:15 on Sunday - looking forward to a real barn-burner!

I didn't mean to imply that I disagree, it's just that whenever someone in the media talks about him, they always mention the hair.  I guess it's impossible to separate the two, because that's just who he is.

In the same way, whenever you see pictures of Jack Lambert you get the big gap-toothed smile.  With Hines Ward you get the big smiles after getting laid out (or laying someone else out) on the field.  Can you think of a signature play that Troy Polamalu made, one that you will always associate with him as a football player?

Franco Harris - the Immaculate Reception

Terry Bradshaw - slid 20 yards on his butt, spinning in circles on the artificial turf at Three Rivers against the Oilers on a rainy day

Rocky Bleier - The Super Bowl touchdown catch against the Cowboys (I think it was Dallas)

Jerome Bettis - bowling over Brian Urlacher on a snowy day in Pittsburgh

Ben Roethlisberger - Staying alive in SB XL to throw a sad, wobbly pass to Hines near the goal line (I remember this not because of the pass, but because he scrambled out of trouble, then stepped back from the line of scrimmage to throw the pass.  Typical Ben kind of play, always looking for an open guy.

I think for Troy I remember the play against the Colts where he had to change direction, move sideways and backwards to catch the ballcarrier.  If he had missed the guy probably gains 20 yards.  Father of Twins has that play as an avatar, or he did a couple of weeks ago.  But a clutch play that would not have been made by 99.9% of players who ever played the game - pure athlete, that guy.

But LoveTheSteelers,

Remember the story of Samson...he was blessed with strength as long as he didn't cut his hair.  In fact, he was able to destroy whole armies because of his strength.

Certain polynesian cultures equate their strength and virility in their males by the long locks.  This may be the roots (no pun intended) as to why he keeps his hair long and flowing on the field.  I would think it be a compliment to be equated with that.

Report is that McFadden is out for 5 games, apparently he had surgery on his arm.  So we should see him back in time for the playoffs.  I honestly think the Steelers should keep him.  He's a very good QB and a playmaker when he's on the field.

Gays doing okay, we'll have to wait and see how he does and if he can consistently play at a high level.  Steelers will need to draft a cb anyway, given Townsend isn't getting any younger and one has to wonder how much longer he can play at a high level also.

"Steelhat, I like Tyrone Carter as a backup.  Though he's not as versatile as Sampson is, he can cover well enough and definitely make some big hits.  "

Hey mom,

On a technical note, it would be SAMSON, not SAMPSON.  And it's funny that of all things, his claim to fame is the flowing mane!  The price of success I suppose...

We will probably see Roy Lewis up and active for probably a few games. Lets see what he can do, he played great in the pre-season, so good I'm surprised he's still on the practice squad (much like RB Justin Vincent) and is unclaimed. Hopefully William Gay steps up and he has looked good so far this year. I remember when Ike Taylor was ina position like this stuck behind Willie Williams, Ricardo Colclough, Chad Scott, and Deshea Townsend in his breakout year of 2005. If McFadden is gone for the year (hope and wish the best for him) the only positive is his stock and asking price will probably drop (stupid Scott Boras). He could be gone next year and so we need a CB in the draft.
