My Top 10 NFL Games of 2008

Posted on: April 15, 2008 7:28 pm

With the 2008 NFL schedule finally published, a challenge went out to post your top 10 games.  Normally I would have passed this by but I'll bite.  So here's my list for what the top 10 will be.

Week 3:

Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis

With the progress being made in the Jacksonville, it’s possible that the Colts actually will have to run the season before grabbing the AFC South title, which could be taken away from them by the Jaguars.  If the Jaguars start out strong against Indianapolis in the early part of the season, the Jags could run the gauntlet and we could see a shift in power next season.

Week 4:

Ravens at Pittsburgh

Except for the first game in 2007, a game against the Ravens is never an easy one.  Ravens will be healthy and own the Steelers for the most part.  Ravens have a chance to start their season off by beating the defending AFC North champions.  Steelers need this game as to not fall behind in the division.

Week 6:

Patriots at San Diego

Definitely no love loss between these teams.  Chargers defense is going to come on strong, as always.  Chargers will be out to prove they can beat the Patriots and the Patriots will continue to attempt to humiliate the Chargers.

Giants against the Browns

The Browns have an opportunity to upset the reigning SB champion and show the world that last season was not a fluke.  The Giants are out to protect their crown and want to prove that they weren’t a fluke also.

Week 8

Cardinals at Carolina

Two teams with potential to be division winners.  Delhomme will hopefully be healthy and the Cardinals young team will be in sync.  This will probably be the most underrated game of the week.
Week 14

Cowboys at Pittsburgh

Cowboys/Steelers games are will always be reminiscent of the Bradshaw/Staubach matchup.  Could Romo/Roethlisberger make these games as exciting as the ones I grew up with?

Week 17:

Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh

Given both teams strength of schedule for next season, the possibility is great for a nail biter for this past seasons AFC North division contenders.  This game holds implications of a tie breaker for the division title in 2008

Final Three:

Colts/Steelers – Steelers/Patriots – Patriots/Colts

These three games represent a triangle….Patriots had taken the AFCC away from the Steelers and went on to win the SB that year.  The year after Steelers had done the same to the Colts, the year after the Colts took out the Patriots and got the monkey off their back.

Okay, so I’m a Steelers fan, why wouldn’t the majority of my top 10 be Steeler games…lol.

Yeah, it's going to be a tough schedule, but you never know how the season will actually develop...they may get lucky.

Gotta go with the Cowboy/Steeler game in Pittsburgh.  I've been promised two tickets and I'm going with a hard core Cowboy fan.  I want to be in his face all night.  Go Steelers!......................... Have ya'll seen the schedule.  Boy if that isn't the #1 schedule in terms of difficulty this season I don' t know what is.  Damn.

My Top 10 NFL Games of 2008

It's not that I'm not giving the Boys and the Giants any love here, but the Giants and Cowboys meet twice a year, regardless.  I can understand the rivalry between the Cowboys and Giants now because of the Cowboys being knocked out of the playoffs by the Giants.  As I said, if I were to list a Giants/Boys game, it would be the last one, should it come down to a tie breaker.

Realistically, the scenario was the same three years ago for the Bengals/Steelers games.  Steelers knocked out the Bengals in the playoffs in the WC, were both games in the top 10 to watch, I didn't think so?  Now if the Giants were facing the Patriots again then I would have listed that game.

As I stated, most of my picks were "homer" picks, yet still, there were only two division games for the Steelers that I listed.  The Ravens, because they've consistently owned the Steelers in the past year.  Given the tougher "schedule" for both the Steelers and Browns...the Ravens (as well as the Bengals) actually have the opportunity to win the division.  This is why I think it's imperative for the Steelers to roll over the Ravens in their games.

As far as the Browns/Steelers final game.  It came down to a tie-breaker last year for the division championship (and a WC slot).  The Browns have the potential to keep up with and/or take over the division from the Steelers, but the possibilities are also good that it will come down to another tie-breaker.

If I were to chose a game based on being knocked out of the playoffs, it still wouldn't be the Cowboys/Giants game.  It would have to be the Jaguars/Steelers game.  Jags own the Steelers.  Yet despite the "owning", these games have for the most part been nailbiters, and promises to be great games.

I chose the Indy/Patriots - Steelers/Patriots - Steelers/Indy games because this was the normal triangle of the AFC supremecy.

Well, I'd like to see a Seahawk/Steeler SB again, and have it be better the SB XL.

Well red,

I wouldn't say there's no love from long as the Steelers aren't up against them :).

It should be interesting to see how well the Patriots fare against the 12th man.

My Top 10 NFL Games of 2008

Oh my poor Seahawks, no love from the NFL and no love from Mom.

FYI- First, we go to Dallas for Thanksgiving where we are looking forward to making Romo cry, again.  Second, Brady is coming to town for (I think) the first time, the crowd will be pumped and are we are already looking forward to breaking our false start record against him.

The locals however are waiting with baited breath for Josh Brown to come back to town, I guarantee the boos will be loud and emphatic.
