Kennedy dealing in the Caribbean

Posted on: December 1, 2008 9:29 am

Much maligned 2006 #1 pick Ian Kennedy has been pitching for Mayaguez of the Caribbean winter league. He pitched decently in his first few starts, but has really gotten it going in his last two.

16 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K

Hard to improve on that. Obviously there's a long way between a winter league and the bigs, but a full head of confidence heading into spring training certainly can't hurt.

Meanwhile, Melky Cabrera is hitting .345, and Robbie Cano .308 in the same league.

Kennedy dealing in the Caribbean

No, Kennedy is not going to have Santana's career in all probability. But Kennedy was not part of the package anyway, according to reports. It was Hughes, Melky, and another pitching prospect and another positional prospect-all for the honor of giving Santana the richest contract for a pitcher in history.

I'm in the camp that it was the right decision, regardless of the immediate results-Red Sox made the same decision, and it ended a little better for them, largely because Lester came into his own.

Why can't that happen with Hughes? Why can't that happen with Kennedy?

Answer is you don't know that it can't. Because it just did last year.

Gotta give the kids a chance before you ship them all out.

Kennedy dealing in the Caribbean

I never said Kennedy for Santana straight up.. Cashman isn't smart enough to pull something that brilliant off.. i said we could of traded him and had Santana which of course would require more.. But point here is this.. I don't by the hype. Unless some how Kennedy proves he can be a pitcher like Santana.. Which would imply he throws in the high 90's and has an off speed pitch and shows he can pitch on the big stage not on some Island pitching against the local villagers.... Bury Kennedy?.. In 2007 he had value more the reason for the trade. .Why do you think the Twins mentioned his name? But 2008 the Twins would of laugh at a package with him in it.. And since we are on the matter of laughing, mention Kennedy's name in any trade now, well do you hear the ROAR on that?  Who are we kidding?.. Number one pick or not,  guys like Johan come along once in a life time.. But i see i am in the minority for agreeing to make that trade. . But the past is the past and i am sure when its all said and done Kennedy stats will  match Santana's .. 109-51 ERA of 3.11 thru 2008 .. Become the ace of our staff and lead his team to the playoffs...  YUP, 6 years and counting ..I'll stay tune for that to happen.... but feel free to Call me Crazy..

Yeah, because that was the deal-Kennedy for Santana. LOL. Come on man.

And he's a former #1 pick. You can bury him if you want, but I'm going to give a 23 year old a little more than 40 innings to prove himself.

Call me crazy.

Kennedy dealing in the Caribbean

Not surprised he is doing well.. Who's the competition? Sister of the Bleeding Hearts grade school!!..  It only goes to show how much  spin Cashman and the rest of his PR staff puts out there for Yankee fans. I hope he continues to have sleepless nights hearing the echos of Yankee fans screaming at him for not trading Ian Kennedy
to the Twins for the best pitcher on the planet. I am glad Kennedy is pitching well and hope he continues to pitch well so maybe some other team will take him off our hands. I just hope other Yankee fans like me don;t by this hype on him nor Hughes. Ian Kennedy;s lack of mental toughness and lack of a back bone just goes to show how poor our scouting department really is and Cashmans lack of player development. The thought that most Yankee fan's once called  Kennedy baby Moose(Mussina)  was a total insult . Never should Kennedy's name ever be mentioned in the same sentence with  Mussina . Ian Kennedy is a West coast guy who needs to be traded to the National League and let him dominate 8 and 9 hitters for the rest of his failing career.. Cashman if your out there reading this, I have two words for your sleepless nights.... PRICE LESS!!!...
