The third selection of the Yankees impressive '06 draft (behind only current Yankees Ian Kennedy and Joba Chamberlain) was Zachary McAllister directly out of Illinois Valley Central High School. McAllister went 12-1 with a 1.04 ERA his senior year and was first team all state.

His first year as a pro had some bumps, as he struggled to a 4-6 record with a 5.17 ERA at short-season Staten Island. The one stat that does jump out is the 75 he K'ed in only 71 innings. Peripherals like that are more important than record or ERA at such an early level.

Now we come to 2008, and McAllister is off to a terrific start at Charleston. Joining a rotation with the likes of Dellin Betances and Jairo Heredia, McAllister has shone as brightly as his more hyped rotation mates, to the tune of a 2-1 record and a 1.13 ERA in 4 starts. His peripherals are outstanding as well- although his K rate has dropped some (19 in 24 IP), his hit rate has plummeted (only 15 in 24 IP), and his BAA is .174

Just another name from the Yankees 2006 pitching draft that's making noise down on the farm.

Gator,

This Charleston team is something else. From the pitching to the positional players they are flat loaded. It's going to be a blast watching them work their way up, that's for sure.

Thanks for the continued updates on the Yankees loaded farm system. The future does seem so bright and I am loving it
