Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

Back to racing and anyone who has read my post or a lot of my blogs know by now I'm not a big fan of Junior Nation.  I have a lot of friends on this board that are fans of Dale Earnhardt Junior, but its those that think their driver is the greatest and can do know wrong that I like to get under their skin.  Anyway, being a Michael Waltrip fan I get a lot of ribbing and bashing about how bad Mikey is and how he is a failure after one year with his new start up team, with a new manufacture, on the other hand I have always maintained that Rick Hendrick signed Dale Junior for the money he would bring in.  So what the heck lets look at who has had the better season.

On paper you would say Dale Junior had the better year hands down, 1 win vs 0 wins for MWR, made the chase while 2 of the 3 MWR cars are in the top 30, 1 top 25 and the third car basically moved to another team sitting as the first go or go homer, in 36th.  But (did both Jr . and MWR meet their fans expectations) I want to break it down by expectations and see how both stack up.

When Junior was signed by HMS last year all I saw was how Junior was going to win 2 to 3 races a year and be fighting for a championship and be a top chase contender.  So lets look at what happened this year.  Junior ran consistent all season, I will give him that, but he only won 1 race, fuel mileage and if not for a lucky yellow, would have run out of gas on the backstretch and lost the race, but a win is a win and I will not take anything away from him just wanted to point out all the factors.  He finished the first 26 races in 4th in points and if the classic points were being used  he would be in 6th, but the way the points are reset Junior is sitting in 11th position with a very good chance that he will not make the podium.  Junior has led several races this year but his communication with his crew chief and some questionable calls from his crew chief, have lead to his demise in the later portions of the race.

Now lets look at MWR.  MWR started the season great for a second year organization.  All 3 cars were locked into the top 35 after the first 5 races of the season and for 1 week with David Reutimann, right after he moved to the 44 car, the 55 and 44 have been locked in all season.  The 00 fell out of the top 35 somewhere around the 26th race and is battling to get back in. MWR did have a sit back though as they lost the sponsorship of the 44 to Roush Racing.  But we are seeing sponsors moving to all the established teams and leaving the startups and some established teams without sponsors.  At least MWR has sponsors for the 55 and 00 (prior 44 car) for next season.  Anyway getting back to MWR they have been competitive somewhat throughout the year.  Mikey had a strong car a 'Dega in the spring and would have contended for the win but him motor gave up on the last lap.  Rain kept him from winning a fuel stragey race in New Hampshire, but he finished second, and David Led the most laps at Richmond in the fall and has, along with Michael, been running very well the later part of the season.

So what was my expectations of MWR.  3 cars locked into the show, with the David and Mikey in the top 25 in points.  Well, David is in the top 25 but Mikey is in 29th so he has fallen short of expectations, But overall I am happy with the progress MWR has made this year and am looking forward to them competing for wins consistently next season.

So who had the better year, MWR or Junior? : PUSH

Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

Mikey,...you can't compare last year to this year.  Junior didn't even make the chase last year.  Yea, he won a couple races but half the time his car was broke.  That is why he left DEI.  Inconsistant equipment and the owner wasn't willing to put money the money into the cars like Hendrick is.  Her (Theresa E.)  not wanting to do it Juniors way cast her all season and now she is having to join up with C.G. racing to keeps things going.  All I am saying is that his year, while not over the top, he met our expectations.  He had good equipment, was competitive and finsished the season 3rd.  He met my expectations.  Next year Jr's expectations will be higher and competing for a championship may be in the making.   MWR's expectations will be the same and the word Championship isn't even in their vocabulary yet.

The simple answer to a complex question is CARL EDWARDS.

Heels, if Junior met expectations then why did he leave DEI to begin with?  He has the same stats, less one top 10, that he had in 2006.  So he didn't improve anything this year.  Last year his troubles began after he signed with HMS not before, except with the 100 point deduction because of his crew chiefs error.  So if all the Junior fans says he met expectations why would they have wanted him to leave an organization that was already providing cars that met everyones expectations?  That makes no sense.  I've said this once and I'll do it again, it wouldn't surprise me to see Junior get 2 or 3 wins next season, but after all the hullaballoo that went on after Junior signed with HMS, I would say, if his fans had the guts to admit it, Junior did not live up to the hype or expectations this year, because he did no better this year than he did at DEI.

Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

I don't disagree that Rick Hendrick added Jr. for the money that he would bring in.  He is a smart business man, I would have done the some thing.  But that is not what we are talking about.  Jr. did well this year and finished above Hendricks golden boy (#24) for the regular season.  That was more than anyone expected.  MWR, well had a tough year.  Don't see it getting better anytime soon.  I appreciate the fact that you are a loyal fan, but when you compare the two, Jr. did well and MWR, not so good.  Like I said before if you expectations are to be not so bad, then you need to find something else to do.

Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

For all of those who have stated that Junior has lived up to expectations this year well let me give you some interesting stats.

In 2006 Junior had 1 Win, 10 Top 5's and 17 Top 10's and finished 5th in the points (chase)

So far this year Junior has 1 win, 10 Top 5's and 16 Top 10's and the best he can finish in the chase is 7th.

Glad to see Junior fans let us know what was expected of him.  Drive like 2006 and everything is cool and Junior can meet his fans expectations.

Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

We must be looking at two very different message boards. Last year people said he would dominate compared to what he did the last few years and he did. He won a race he made the chase he has finished almost every race and has a bunch of top 10's and top 5's. Sure a championship would have been nice but realistically no one expected it this year.

I will agree on the push though. Jr did meet his fans expectations and MWR sucked just like evryone expected. :)

Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

Frady, comeon you know better than to give me that line.  All the talk last year on this board was how Junior would dominate this season and win a championship and he did not come close to those expectations.  As I stated on the front page he had a better year than MWR as far as on the track, but I don't believe he had a better year in the expectation department.  To say his fans only expected a win and being in the chase is no different than what they expected when he was driving for DEI.  With what your saying he Junior met everyones expectations in 2006 as he had a win and made the chase.

No, he didn't live up to the expectations or the hype that surrounded him this year.  Not by a long shot.

Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

How did I miss this blog? Owell everyone knows what I am going to say anyways and it won't change anything. One thing though is Jr fans I talk to only expected a win and Jr making the chase this season so in that respect Jr meet all there goals. No one I talked to realistically expected a championship this season.

Oh and Hawks good job if you havn't already go cash that check.

Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

JB, glad to see that you understand where I was coming from.  The biggest reason for this blog was to point out to the Junior fans they expected way too much this year from Junior.  Did he have a successful year. I'd say if you made the chase yes it's successful.  But did he live up to the expections and hype from Junior Nation?  Not at all.  In order for him to have lived up to that hype he would have had to combine Kyles regular season along with JJ's chase run in order to succeed.  As for Mikey and MWR, I think he has had a successful season being a 2nd year team.  But I stated at the beginning of the year I felt that he should have his and Davids car in the top 25 so he missed.  My expectations were just a little high too.

Junior vs MWR Who had better Year?

I called it a push, but remember this, Mikeyfan.  It is much easier to hit a big target with three rocks, than it is to hit a small target with one.  Honestly, we are talking about contending for a championship (small target, one rock) versus making your way out of the bottom, being better than 20% of the drivers out on the track, as a team (big target, three rocks)  I think you see where this is going.  If you want to do something great, you have to expect something great.  Junior wins, on merit of his goals alone!!!!
