1.Toronto Blue Jays

Roy Halladay has gotten off to a fast start again this season, but its shortstop Marco Scutaro and designated hitter Adam Lind who are helping to carry the offense. In the tough AL East, the Blue Jays look very strong, and if their offense can produce runs, the pitching staff will feel a lot more comfortable.

2.Los Angeles Dodgers

Manny Ramirez's suspension can't be a good thing. However, with guys like Russell Martin, Casey Blake, Orlando Hudson, Matt Kemp, and James Loney still there, the offense isn't that much worse. Chad Billingsley and Eric Stults are two pitchers throwing very well early, as well as closer Jonathan Broxton.

3.Texas Rangers

Josh Hamilton has hit three home runs in his past three games, after coming back from a rib injury. He's going back to his old swing, and it's working. Second baseman Ian Kinsler is looking golden at the plate. Texas is on a five game winning streak, due to their hot hitters stepping it up.

4.Chicago Cubs

The pitching staff is really carrying the Cubs right now. Derrek Lee is playing nowhere close to his form last year. Centerfielder Kosukue Fukudome is hitting well so far this season, with a .340 batting average. Carlos Zambrano and Aramis Ramirez are on the DL. Ryan Theriot and leadoff man Alfonso Soriano are really helping the Cubs, who are on a four game winning streak.

5.St. Louis Cardinals

Although the Cardinals claim the last spot of the top 5, they may not be here long. Outfielders Ryan Ludwick and Rick Ankiel are on the DL, as well as Chris Carpenter.

When is the last time the Cubs won a championship?  Its been awhile, so you can throw that argument right out the window.

No offense but the Cubs have not won a "Championship" in over 100 years so that is not the reason they get more respect.  It is because they are from one of the largest markets in the country and have a long history.  In fact the Brewers (1982) have been to a World Series more recently than the Cubs (1945).  The Cubs only get respect because their fans are super diehards and really the inabiltiy of the team to win the big one is the reason they get all the press.  Now St. Louis has been a powerhouse organization that does deserve the respect it gets.  10 championships is 2nd to only the Yanks.  I would also like to point out that the city of Milwaukee won a championship when we had the Braves.  I hope the Brew crew goes all the way but the Cubs only get more press because they are from a bigger city, not because they are some type of title town.

Yes the cubs are doing great I agree - without some of their stars. Number 4?? But lets ignore your love affair with the loveable losers and focus on another aspect of your rankings... what did you have against the brewers? They are one of the hottest teams in baseball. And whats more - they just swept the cards. No in your defense this was before your column however, even before they met the cards they were playing great - better than the cubs. Big series coming up - Cubs and Cards - Ankiel and Carpenter and Ludwick are coming back. Go Cards.

If you notice this was from may 16 and I agree where are the Brewers, but the only way the Brewers will gain any respect is by winning a championship. Until then the cubs & cards will always be looked at as better. It is a long season and hopefully the Brewers can win it all this year seeing as how it has never happened for the Brewers.

Where are the Brewers??? They have the best record in baseball since April 19th, they just swept the Cardinals, and are leading the division and yet you still have the Cardinals and Cubs ahead of them. What is wrong with you???

Come on Harst bro, Sox are still right on Jays tail and have done it with nothing from Manny, Pedroia average at best and weak starts from Beckett and Lester. Honestly, they haven't even hit stride and are still competitive. Definately warrant Top 5.
