I will countdown the top 10 players of all-time, two a day until we get to numero uno.

10th best NBA player of all-time:

Hakeem Olajuwon, C

As one of the greatest players in NBA history, Hakeem's dunks and blocks will never be forgotten by those who watched him. Along with Clyde Drexler, they were Phi Slama Jama, the first slam-dunking fraternity, so named because of its well-known above the rim prowess and tendency to dunk the basketball.

One of the most electrifying centers in the NBA, Hakeem was teased because of his height at a young age. However, Hakeem stood tall, took the humiliation, and turned it into passion; passion to win at an NBA level.

And that he did. Leading the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995 to become world champions was only one of his many great accomplishments. Here are the rest that highlighted his career:

He was regarded as one of the greatest centers in NBA history because of his great rebounding, tight defense, and wonderful ability to spread his arms high and get the clutch block. Also, he could score as well as any center in the league.

So, as any Houston Rockets fan would agree, Hakeem Olajuwon is definitely deserving as the title of one of the 10 Greatest Players of All-Time. We may never again see a center who balanced all his talents so well and led his team the way Hakeem did, and for that, his NBA career will stand strong.

Coming tonight: 9th best NBA player of all-time

Great idea. Look forward to the countdown.

After this one, how about a "most underrated/overshadowed" list?  Go ahead and put James Worthy at the top of that one

Countdown of the Top 10 NBA Players of All-Time

I look forward to your list....

Wilt, Russell, Magic, Jordan, Bird should all definitely be there...That's five.

If you have Hakeem I would have Shaq definitely and possibly Moses Malone in ninth spot.

There's also Tim Duncan, Baylor, Erving, Kobe, West who could be there...

I'd predict: 1. Jordan, 2. Magic, 3. Wilt, 4. Bird, 5. Russell, 6. Shaq, 7. Dr J, 8. Baylor, 9. Moses, 10. Hakeem.

Kobe and Duncan miss out.

I can't wait to see the rest of your list...

This is a great idea, Harst, and you're an intelligent enough mind to be able to formulate a really good list.  I like the fact that you put Hakeem on the list.  I think he gets overlooked a lot when people mention the greatest players of all time.  He just kind of gets overlooked.  I don't know if I would put him on here over Tim Duncan (I'm assuming you're not putting Duncan on the list) but he still deserves the nod and this is a good pick to start the list.

very interesting idea. i agree that is tough to compare players from different positions and different eras but i look forward to reading the rest of your rankings. i am not sure i would have the dream in my top ten. he was an amazing player and loved watching him play. the dream shake was one of the all time great post moves. i don't think anyone can duplicate the fluidity he possessed in the post. i will have to think about my top ten as well.

I actually had Hakeem as high as 7, and as low as 10. But the rest above him I believe are slightly better. However, it is sorta hard to compare a center with a point guard, but I'll do my best.

Sorry I'm lagging on the thing we talked about, work has been weird. But I'll get on it soon.

Don't worry about it. I'm through with that as well, so no problem.

And I believe that Hakeem is the only player to have won DPOY, MVP, Finals MVP and the championship itself in the same year (was it 1994?) Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure on that.
