The NCAA is so hypocritical

So the NCAA is about to vacate Memphis' Final Four from 2008, presumably because -- while he was in high school -- 2008 Memphis star Derrick Rose used a fraudulent test score to get into college in the first place.

Fine.

But what about the program that made it to a Final Four with a player who, the NCAA later found out, had accepted more than $2,000 from his AAU coach while still in high school? That player also should have been ineligible. That school also should have vacated the Final Four.

But that player was Corey Maggette. And that team was Duke. The year was 1999.

So nothing happened. To anyone. To this day. Nothing has happened, and it never will.

My point? My point is that the NCAA, even with as much progress as it has made under Myles Brand, still uses selective justice when crashing down onto various schools or coaches. Then-Memphis coach John Calipari is on the NCAA's hit list, and so the NCAA ostensibly holds him responsible for Marcus Camby's dalliance with an agent in 1995, and for whatever Derrick Rose did while he was in high school hundreds of miles away in Chicago.

But Mike Krzyzewski is not on the NCAA's hit list, so Maggette is fine, Duke is fine, 1999 is fine, the world is a happy place full of seashells and balloons.

Forgive me if I vomit up a conch.

I said conch.

The NCAA is so hypocritical

not so fast ffprthead...

2009 - DISD STRIPED SOC from its 2006 High School State Championship

Lets see if DISD striped them from a 2006 title, and Arthur was a sophomore in 2008, what does this mean???  HE WAS ON THAT TEAM and HIS GRADES WERE CHANGED!!!!!
Are you sure that the championship was (I think stripped is the word you were looking for instead of striped) taken away from SOC because of the Arthur grade change? As mentioned by someone else, SOC was also investigated for another athlete's transcript issues. It was my understanding that it was for using the other athlete that the championship was stripped. Unless they have now stripped two from SOC, I think your ass-umption that it is for the Arthur grade change is incorrect. I'll see what I can find....more to come.

The NCAA is so hypocritical

Memphis isnt being punished just for Rose and his ACT, they also gave his family traveling money.   jayhawkgrant, you ignorant slut!  Seriously, just shut up, you don't have a clue what you're talking about.  Memphis never gave his family traveling money, and I challenge you to go back through the NCAA letter and locate any statement where Memphis is accused of giving the family money.  I'll help you out, you can't do it because it's not in there.  The accusation is that the university neglected to charge his card for two of 14 or so trips.  He was charged for the rest, but there was an apparent problem with his credit card for two of them, and teh accountign office neglected to follow up and apply the charges once everythign was straightened out.  Big difference, and the accounting procedures have been changed.

Do yourself a favor, and know what you're talking about before you speak (or type).

The NCAA is so hypocritical

Yep, and its been 5 years since the Reggie Bush problem??  What gives; oh and what about Darryl Arthur of Kansas and his grades being changed did mighty Kansas have to forfit the title to Memphis, don't think so..........what about Alabama being on probation and committing more violations...........death penalty, nope!  Its a shame that UM gets hit when NCAA clearing house cleared the player (Rose), let him play all year then come back after UM.  Memphis should sue the NCAA and Cal for all the incentive money and raises back.  Good luck KY with this guy............oh, they are BCS so no "real" penalties.

The NCAA is so hypocritical

Maybe, at least in part, this has something to do with it being Calipari's second (minimum) major violations and it was more than just the SAT.  The coach had to know that Rose's brother was traveling and staying with the team on road trips and not paying for those expenses.  If he didn't know, then its a "lack of institutional oversight or control" violation.  Either way Memphis deserved punishment.

The NCAA is so hypocritical

If Darrell Arhtur hadn"t played in that game it would only have allowed Cole Aldrich to embarass Hansborough even further. Your entire program wouldn't even exist if it weren't for KU. Dean Smith went to Topeka High and attended KU and learned everything he knows from the venerable Phog Allen. Face it you're program is just our red-headed step child.

The NCAA is so hypocritical

As it was at Memphis moron. That's why it passed thru the Clearinghouse. How much more info do you need than the NCAA Clearinghouse's stamp of approval?

The NCAA is so hypocritical

The Arthur issue is not the same.  It was investigated before he went to KU and was cleared.  Your team got "boat raced" in the semi-finals (remeber 40-12)?  Deal with it.
