Not sure what that says about me -- not sure I want to know -- but in the last few days I've started to sympathize with, and empathize for, and now flat out like, Rick Pitino.

His struggles in recent weeks humanized him. Didn't make him likeable, but made him human. And I like human.

But for me the tipping point was today's press conference where he BLASTED the woman who tried to extort him, and then blasted the media, against the advice of his lawyers. They told him not to speak to the media, a sound legal strategy with a court date looming. He said he tried to follow that strategy, "But enough is enough."

I love it.

This is how we want people to react to such drama. We don't want them hiding behind publicists or lawyers, or issuing non-denial denials or "no comments." We want them to come out swinging, and Pitino just launched a series of haymakers at damn near everyone.

Good for him.

Good for you, Rick Pitino. All that stuff I've ever written about you or your program? Forgive me. Dead serious. Forgive me. Now win this court case and then go win 25 games this season. Just to show everyone you can.

SO you pick on people with mental illnesses and idolize the ones who cheat and then cry that he is the victim...GOd are your values and morals screwed up. HE is going through hell? I think he chose that hell for himself..HE chose the psychotic to have sex with in a restaurant. Now he is the victim and should stand up for himself? You need to do some serious soul searching. So you want to trade places with Beasley to get the money and women. Then you want to congratulate men who cheat on their wives but stand up for themselves when they turn out to be psycho and try to take money from them? Doyel I am surprised CBS puts up with this because you are offensive (pun intended) in every manner of life

This comment was supposed to be in a reply to someone saying something similar to what I said in my post

Open letter to CBS sportsline

Dear, Editors and all those in charge of CBS sportsline

One of you columists greg doyel has continually shown his disregard to morals with his writings, and he is bringing disrespect to your orgainization. As to his most recent post. Doyel has stated that he is now feeling for Rick Pitinio and he belives that the coach should not be the one to blame. In order to fully understand the gravity of what he has just said let me paint it to you a diffrent way. Gregg Doyel has now stated that he feels for and supports an adulturer and futhermore attempted to buy his way out of this situation. That doesn't sound so peachy. Gregg Doyel with this letter has shown that he not only has a win at all costs mentality but a since he is a basketball coach he can do no wrong. If this scandal had broke out in your board of directors i can state with a reasonable amount of confidence that the questioned Director would be removed from his office. If this scandal broke out in politics it would absolutly destroy a canadate now that is a long list. (Edwards, Hart....) the list goes on for a very long time. As a writer for your orgainization he represents you and what he writes has a direct impact on your site.

So it is with the strongest recomendation that you remove Greg Doyel from writing on this site.

Interesting, so Pitino cheats on his wife and creates this whole situation and now Doyle says he likes him because he is more human???? Seriously.  All this says about Doyle is that he loathes these celebs as I never feel any of them are anything more than human.  And I would actually say that Pitino is an immoral human closer to other species than the human species.

Does anyone really find it strange that Pitino's overblown sense of self and manliness that got his mistress all hot and bothered is getting Doyel all jacked up, too?  Seems like a natural response for both of them.

Hey Doyel,
Whens the article come out on mens basketball and kentucky mudslinging. Meaning if i was a KY fan id love to hear he's tanking and likewise in the rivalry. I mean look at mens basketball in kentucky. they love to win. So much their coaches look like hitmen. And they are..they are the $ paid out by kentucky for the win. Hoops is huge in the state of KY, i can only imagine how nasty the rivalry is outside the residing coaches door. I mean the other side has calipari with two recruiting violations even though big blue will shell out tons of cash to get its run at the Championship.

In the end over this, thats what its really all about...the win.
so any page on the bigger scope ? better get it quick ..freeman uses the information from these  columns to make his money for him too. LOL

 Go ACC!!

Join the club.

I'm starting to like him, too (not that I ever really disliked him). Pitino's teams have beaten my favorite teams on more than one occasion in the past. Naturally, I hated him then. But, it's hard not to root for a man who stands up on his hind legs, growls, and bares his claws in the face of adversity, whether such adversity was fomented by an opposing program or a nut hell-bent on extortion. It’s good to see that the figurehead at Louisville has more than just basket-balls. Go Rick!

All this guy does is try to figure out the most controversial angle and go with it.  I guess it works, because he is getting paid.
