Damn I'm starting to like Rick Pitino

Not sure what that says about me -- not sure I want to know -- but in the last few days I've started to sympathize with, and empathize for, and now flat out like, Rick Pitino.

His struggles in recent weeks humanized him. Didn't make him likeable, but made him human. And I like human.

But for me the tipping point was today's press conference where he BLASTED the woman who tried to extort him, and then blasted the media, against the advice of his lawyers. They told him not to speak to the media, a sound legal strategy with a court date looming. He said he tried to follow that strategy, "But enough is enough."

I love it.

This is how we want people to react to such drama. We don't want them hiding behind publicists or lawyers, or issuing non-denial denials or "no comments." We want them to come out swinging, and Pitino just launched a series of haymakers at damn near everyone.

Good for him.

Good for you, Rick Pitino. All that stuff I've ever written about you or your program? Forgive me. Dead serious. Forgive me. Now win this court case and then go win 25 games this season. Just to show everyone you can.

Damn I'm starting to like Rick Pitino

Ricky P had no problem wanting the media to talk abiut his book and taking the media tour when their was a war going on. Now he says the media should stay out of his life after Kennedy just past away.  Dude you make a ton of money, you put yourseld out there, have a priest follow you around, tell recruits what type of person you are. Rick has no problem when he has complete control of a situation, but when the media does not put him on a mountain top he lashes out.  This was his doing, and yes, Rick can coach, but you are not the great speaker of hope and goodness that you made this image of yourself.  How many other times has Rick cheated on his wife, just once hun.  He paid for an abortion, you think he never did this before.  This just in, the guy has been living like this for years, he has issues.

I like him too!

I love that he 'enjoyed' a mentally unstable woman in a restaurant.

I am going to like him even better after he completes the meal and boffs his next conquest in the Dairy Queen for dessert.

Doyel, you're again writing anything, pleading for everyone gazing sportsline to give your writing a look.  If this doesn't work, you'll probably be kissing up to Michael Vick and Lawrence Phillips, saying that you like them and like what they stand for.  Or you'll be defending Plaxico Burress and talking about how you'd just like to drink a few beers with him, just to try to get inside that genius head of his.  Thanks for coming up with such garbage yet again...

Well, I agreed with you that Thomas doesn't appear to be the biggest idiot at FIU.

Then you regress with this moronic 'support' of Pitino. You should have stopped with the first article.

I would call this more 'dehumanizing' than your comment that it makes Pitino seem more human. He's always seemed human to me, just one with a lot bigger ...no not that...ego than most people.

What does Pitino expect the press to do? He's always schmoozed the press to ramp sales of his books or to publicize his job...Why would he think the press was going to be quiet about something negative that he did??? The press realizes he's a basketball coach, not a saint, so they'll gladly give him more publicity, even if it is for dragging 'that' out in a restaurant, and displaying that he is anything but a 'devout' Catholic. Feels great to drag your family through the slime and the mud of dishonesty, being unfaithful, oh yeah, the word I was looking for, adultery. But Rick can put a positive 'spin' on almost anything, "It was consensual sex".

Rick, the media isn't doing anything to you. You  yourself when you played your little "I'm a God" routine and  Sypher. Now you have to live with the results. Sometimes life isn't fair, sometimes it is. I think in this case, you're kinda getting what you deserve, YOU Inglorious Basterd, to borrow the title of a current motion picture, misspelling and all! Or maybe you're just a terd.

Doyel, this douche is on you too! You showed you have a 'win at any cost' mentality with your supposedly "dead serious" comment in the last paragraph.

>>  Maybe he'll learn someday...maybe.  Lets hope he does.

He'll only learn if his wife tells him to go to hell, and takes him to the cleaners for cheating on her.

God I can't stand women who "stand by their man."  Not when it's a case of him cheating on her! Without a condom, yet. Such stupidity deserves to be punished.

That's right...lets give ole Pitino a big pat on the back for retaliating against the horrible and hellish situation HE CAUSED.  Sympathize and empathize all you like...it just shows that you are what Pit'iful'ino is.  Someone who would rather lash out and blame others and ass pat each other for it because he didn't have enough self-control or dignity to keep the chubby in his pants...more then once.
These things don't make people human..they make people less than human.  Doyal, it looks like your standards for human life are so low it's bordering on disgraceful.  Is that human?  No...it's sinful.  But that's ok, because he BLASTED the media and the press...and I wonder how many times he's BLASTED women who weren't his wife....or how many times he's BLASTED his family for the failure of a husband and father and leader he's supposed to be.

But that's ok.  Lets keep glorifying guys like this.  Lets say that as long as you recruit and win 25 games 'because you can' everything will be ok.  Hellish is right...but Hell is a whole lot hotter then what Pitino is going through right now.  Maybe he'll learn someday...maybe.  Lets hope he does.
