Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

If Boise State beats Oregon State tonight, the Broncos are a safe bet to finish the regular season undefeated, and therefore in position to create another BCS controversy.

Which is absolute dung.

In the college football that I know and love, there are no "safe bets" to run the season and finish it undefeated if you win your first game. That's nonsense, but that's the reality for Boise State. Which means Boise State is nonsense.

Boise State as a national title contender, I mean.

Pick a school from a BCS conference. Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Ohio State, (OK, don't pick one from the Big East. That league sucks.) If any of those teams wins their first game, are they a safe bet to run the table? Of course not.

Boise State is, but only because Boise State's schedule includes Miami (Ohio) and Nevada and something called UC Davis. Georgia plays Florida. Oklahoma plays Texas. USC plays Ohio State. And there are plenty more tough games where those came from.

Boise State is a nice story, and probably a pretty good football team. But Boise State as a national title contender? Come on. You don't really believe it, right?

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

I was just wondering where is James Worthy anyway?

Lets Get a Few Thing Clear

A) Boise State wants out of the WAC.  They would go to the Pac 10 in a heartbeat (if they offered, but everyone knows that is not a real option).  They have been petitioning the Mt West to let them in.  So far the answer has been no.

B) I am a Boise State fan and live in Boise.  No one that I know of is, or has ever said that if we go undefeated this year we should play for a national championship.  However, if we do go undefeated this season then, yeah, we think a BCS game shouldn't be out of the question.

C) No one knows how Boise State, Utah, TCU etc would do in the SEC, Big 12, PAC 10 etc.  They aren't in those conferences, they haven't played those games.  Your opinion on that matter is nothing more that just that, your opinion.  There are no facts.  Because it simply hasn't happened.

D) IF Boise State, Utah, TCU etc did play in the SEC, BIG 12, PAC 10 etc, then one would assume that they also had larger stadiums, nicer facilities and more money...on par with the teams currently in those conferences.  Are you trying to tell me that if Chris Peterson and his staff had the recruits, stadium, facilities and money of an SEC team that he would lose "5-6 games every season"?  I don't think so my friend (but of course, THAT is just my opinion.  It isn't true so we'll never know)

E) People say that if a traditionally powerful program played in the WAC that they would go undefeated too.  I completely agree, they WOULD go undefeated...much like Boise State has.  If you took last year's Florida team and all of a sudden put them in the WAC would that make them a bad team?  Didn't think so.

D) If it is so easy for a team to do what Boise State has done, then why hasn't any other non bcs team been able to the same, or even close to the same (look at the stats over the last 10 years).

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

Boise State pulls this crap every year. They schedule cupcakes, they play in the WAC...they're looking to play the easiest schedule they possibly can every year. They are the anti-anyone, anywhere Fresno State.

And the blue turf is gay.

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

I agree with your points. This is all a silly argument that would go away with a playoff system. Also, if schools are so concerned with teams like BSU (a very good small conference team) getting their shot at a national title then schedule them and quit ducking them.

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

It is true that Boise State is not worthy just by winning tonight. However if they do win, and then win the 12 games after that then they are worthy for an NC shot provided there aren't 2 other undefeateds with tougher schedules.
Let's talk about past history. How do we know which schedules will be tough? We're basing that off past history, right?
Let's go back to past history, then. The year when Boise State beat OU. Remember who was number 1 going in to the national championship that year?
Now imagine that Boise was sent as number 2 against that number 1 that year. For the national championship.
Who was this number 1 I am talking about? It would be an overrated Ohio State Buckeyes team that was probably worse than the Sooners that Boise State beat. If Boise was sent to the title game that year, they very well may have won it.

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

They won the Rose Bowl in 2002, and were awesome from 2000-2002, then.......what?  Beat Oregon by 3 in the Holiday Bowl.  Clap.  Clap.  Clap.  Please, no more Okies in a relevant Bowl for awhile.

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

It's very unusual the big school will travel to the small school. Kudos to Oregon. Most big schools pay to have an easy win at home. Easy competition, more home games. Stacking all the odds in their favor. The SEC, BIG 10 & 12, ACC, Big East, and Pac 10 all claim th5eir conferences are the best by far but are scared to play away from their stadiums, scared to have a playoff, and scared to play a BCS buster team. The same thing will happen again. A small school will get hosed and we will have a 4 way championship. This year I want a reach around.

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

Anytime you beat Stanford and it's considered "a huge upset" you are a nobody.   (at least when it comes to any team with national title hopes) I think Boise could play in the championship...I wouldnt bet on it, but its possible.  I do think they would need to CRUSH Oregon to have a real shot and then not even be challenged the rest of the way.

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

I agree, mostly.  I think that Boise State could get a title shot at some point, but only if they ran the table and nobody else did.  Maybe if we were left with two loss teams.  I am all for the non-majors getting their due, but when Oregon is the toughest game on your schedule, and it's first so that Fresno St. or San Jose State or Tulsa is your toughest game left, you don't score a lot of points with other coaches or the computers.  I'm not sure why Boise St. doesn't have a tougher schedule, but they need to work on it.  Maybe major conference teams don't want the risk of an Oklahoma-like loss (since it appears that one is never going away).  All of that aside, the game tonight might be interesting because of the bad blood.
By the way, the "something called UC Davis" is a Univ. of California school (like Berkley, but not quite as liberal), that just joined the FCS (so, also not as good).  UC Davis is the team that made news in '05 with the huge upset of Stanford (before even finishing the probation to become an FCS school).  Not that UC Davis is likely to beat Boise St., but they also open against Fresno St. so they might make some noise.
