If Boise State beats Oregon State tonight, the Broncos are a safe bet to finish the regular season undefeated, and therefore in position to create another BCS controversy.
Which is absolute dung.
In the college football that I know and love, there are no "safe bets" to run the season and finish it undefeated if you win your first game. That's nonsense, but that's the reality for Boise State. Which means Boise State is nonsense.
Boise State as a national title contender, I mean.
Pick a school from a BCS conference. Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Ohio State, (OK, don't pick one from the Big East. That league sucks.) If any of those teams wins their first game, are they a safe bet to run the table? Of course not.
Boise State is, but only because Boise State's schedule includes Miami (Ohio) and Nevada and something called UC Davis. Georgia plays Florida. Oklahoma plays Texas. USC plays Ohio State. And there are plenty more tough games where those came from.
Boise State is a nice story, and probably a pretty good football team. But Boise State as a national title contender? Come on. You don't really believe it, right?
Boise State is unworthy, and this is why

Boise State is unworthy, and this is whyOklahoma has a winning record in bowl games...FYI.
In the 2000's they are 4-5 with 2 BCS wins and a national title. |

Boise State is unworthy, and this is whyHow about instead of playing such juggernauts as Charleston Southern, Troy, and something called FIU, Florida travels to Boise. Or Oklahoma, who shouldn't be allowed in the BCS Championship until they can prove they can win a bowl game, can go further west to play Boise State instead of Idaho State. LSU plays mighty Washington, Tulane, and La-Lafeyette and La-Tech, why not Boise? Georgia beat Boise St. (badly), so there's no complaint there. But seriously, here's a solution. Since we can't get a playoff like we all want (except old people), why not having a Pac-10/ACC challenge, or a BigTen/SEC tournament and so on in the first four weeks like College Basketball does? Then if you survive the first month, you could have a somewhat less controversial Championship game (unless all the SEC ends up with 2 or more losses) and we can pretend it similar to a playoff and makes the regular season meaningful?

Boise State is unworthy, and this is whyI totally agree with that statement. It's hard for me to agree though because I am a lifelong Boise State fan but I stand behind everyone who throws out strength of schedule and who makes the argument that Boise never plays anybody. They are a good team, and a great team in fact. I think they should step into the Mountain West Conference so that they can get more credibility when they have winning seasons. But until then I don't see Boise ever getting into any bowl games higher than lets say....oh i don't know the Fiesta Bowl?
