To be clear, the Boise player also was a jerk

I meant what I said and I said what I meant about LeGarrette Blount: sit him for the year, Oregon.

But Boise State ought to hand out a little discipline -- not a year, for crying out loud, but something -- to the player who taunted Blount: Byron Hout.

Video is clear. Hout showed zero class in victory, using the postgame to hoot at Blount -- who had talked trash before the game -- and even putting his hands on Blount's shoulder pads. Did Hout deserve to be punched? Nope. But was Hout an innocent bystander?

Nope.

Blount was a poor loser and a despicable, at that moment, human being. But Hout was a clown who deserves some sort of smackdown from his team. Figuratively, I mean. He already was given a literal smackdown.

EverybodyDuck - Wow, your post started out sounding fairly reasonable and something I could agree with, and then......

bsp; Bottom line, Blount is being punished excessively, even for his insane antics.  Hout is being punished properly    &nb

For one, Oregon was not Boise st. first home and home.  They have had a couple with oregon state and will again starting next year.  Fans of any stadium would heckle a player if he were to strike one of thier players as well.  That would not have escalated to the point it did had Blount notbeen a fool and gone after the heckling fans AFTER hitting his own teamate and shoving a cop.
Secondly, Hout is not Boise star defensive end, he is NOT even a starter.  Make sure you know what you are talking about before you talk about it. Thanks

Wow  Doyel, i got hear your little call to the WAC coaches media conference.  Really classy and professional (im being as sarcastic as your whole phone call).  I also found your little congratulations comment at the end quite grown up.  I know you called back and aplogized afterward but blount also called up peterson and hout to apologize and it didnt sav him did it.  I had respect for your opinions before, even if i did not agree.  Now, however, i have lost that respect to hear a so called professional call in and act so foolishly.  So it happened, lets all get past it and stop complaining about how it turned out, we cant control it.

Lol.....Barr Boise State from the BCS participation for replying video of a guy on the other team punching a player in the face on the boise state team? There is one person and only one who deserves the blame for the punch in the face incident. That person in Blount.  Learning to regulate your emotions and not hurt other people is something we learn when we are 3 years old. Let's not forget that what Blount did is a crminal act. He could technically be arrested and charged for assult.

No question that Hout is an embarrassment to his school for the taunt and exhibited the worst of poor sportsmanship, but trash talking is not equal to assult. Suggesting that the Boise State organization is somehow responsbile for Blount's actions on the way into the locker room because of replaying the video on the scoreboard is absurd. Fans taunting players is part of college football. If you can't handle your emotions when a fans taunt you as you run into the tunnel, you should not be playing college football. And let us not forget, that Hout, as classless as his taunt was; he was responding to an equally classless remark made by Blount in to the media during the off season before the game was even played . If Blount keeps his mouth shut in the media during the off season, none of this happens.

You calling anyone a clown is ironic considering your actions on the WAC coaches teleconference on Monday.
Your reputation as anyone that has anything to do with the legitimate media should be revoked, you made us all look bad.

There's no way that Blount deserved to have his (collegiate) career ended over this incident.  He deserved to be punished severly, but suspending him for the remainder of season is a punishment that far outweighs the crime.  It's not fair to the other players on the team who have worked hard to make this season a success.  It's not fair to the fans of Oregon.  The right thing to do would be to suspend him for four games, and require that he complete anger management counciling.  He was clearly taunted by not only an opposing player but also the unruly and classless Boise State fans that continued to bait and harrass him as he left the field.  This was/is an over-reaction.  The media has blown this incident way way out of proportion.  I hope Blount goes on to make millions in the NFL and that he doesn't donate a single penny to the University of Oregon.
