OSU = football school. Cincinnati? Um ...

Posted on: November 14, 2009 2:08 pm

Listen to me. I'm not this mean. I don't intend for this to be as petty as it's going to sound. But I have to tell you one, just one, of the differences between a big-time football school like Ohio State ... and a smaller sibling like Cincinnati.

It's a detail, but details matter. Here it comes:

I'm eating the pregame meal before the Iowa-at-Ohio State game, and they have a McDonald's McFlurry station set up. Plus McDonald's iced coffee. That's in addition to a solid meal of BBQ and potato salad and so forth.

That's now. Last night, at the West Virginia-at-Cincinnati game, they also served BBQ. Fine dinner. But at halftime, their idea of nourishment was to scoop the leftover baked beans into a tin and set the tin on a table, next to a pile of paper plates. Here you go, media. Eat up.

At halftime of this OSU game, I expect more McDonald's. Maybe some pizza.

Just noting. There's money at OSU. And there's cold baked beans at Cincinnati. As far as analogies go, that's a good one.

Seriously, you shouldn't have written this blog... It's just as petty as it sounds, whether you meant it or not. You are talking about the way media are treated at half time and using that to distinguish why one school is 'big-time' and the other is not. Not to mention, the fact that OSU had McDonald's station should alarm you but in totally other ways, as in, corporate America is using college football as a form of capitolism and this is part of the reason why we have the BCS instead of a playoff system.
Next time your drinking your iced coffee at halftime or grabbing a McFlurry at the end of the 1st quarter, remember you are helping contribute to the madness that is the continuation of the BCS system...
Do us a favor and please don't offer up anymore of these type of anecdotes.

Great Blogg article.  I don't know why I still check this rarely updated feature, but I'm glad I did today.  Keep up the good work spreading the news about McDonalds.  I'm all about a healthy diet and lifestlye, but there is nothing wrong with enjoying the Golden Arches.  "It's what I eat and I do"

Please use your high profile to get McDonalds to feature the McArabia in the USA for a limited time.  And while your at it, insist that they allow more flexibility in the increments offered when it comes to McNuggets.  If a four piece is a dollar, why can't I order any amount I want at 25 cents per nugget?  I could live with a four piece mimimum purchase required, although I don't believe it is necessary.

Greg Greg Greg Greg. tsk tsk tsk. You know better than that. Cincinnati has been on the rise the last couple of years and OSU has been on the decline. Big time or small time, the rumblings amongst fans about firing Jim Tressel have get louder, and whoever coaches Cincinnati will be the next darling for some big school in the dumper.
