Short series if this keeps up

LOS ANGELES -- Boston can't beat Los Angeles under most circumstances, but Boston definitely can't beat the Lakers under these:

With Kevin Garnett getting severely outplayed by Pau Gasol.

With Ray Allen contributing nothing but a handful of baskets. No rebounds. No assists. No impact.

With Rajon Rondo shooting poorly from the floor (6-for-14) and the foul line (1-for-4).

With Paul Pierce being a complementary player most of the game. Never mind his final scoring line of 24 points. More than half of that came in the fourth quarter, which was garbage time.

Add it up, and the Celtics lost Game 1 of the NBA Finals 102-89.

Going forward, the Celtics have to improve in just about every area -- scratch that; in every area -- or this series might not come back to Los Angeles for Game 6. No need, if the Lakers win it in five games.

Or four.

Exercising the "if this keeps up" clause

I'm waiting for it.

Celtics probably got lucky.  Lightning in a bottle and such.

Can you now please elaborate on the circumstances in which Boston CAN defeat the Lakers?

Rondo has a triple double, Ray Allen blows up for 24 from behind the arc, Kobe drops the Black Mamba and becomes the Slack Mamba, etc. etc...

Let's not get ahead of ourselves

You are so far ahead, and full of, yourselves.  Don't try to pretend you don't love the purple and yella.  Not only can Boston beat the Lakers under most circumstances, but they will win the championship.

Boston will take game 2.  They will be better in every area.

They will win in 6.

Short series if this keeps up

God awful performance by the Cs tonight. They were awful in every aspect of the game.  Take a deep breathe for a second. Im pretty sure they beat the hell out of the Cavs. Big favorite...  Smoked the Magic.. Bigger favorite.. You dont think Doc is going to figure a way to slow them down..  For the next few days the media will be like there to old, they cant defend there big guys. Then come game 6 the media will be like oh there a bunch of vets. They have been on this stage before..  Such a joke.. 7 games 18th championship coming back to beantown...

Short series if this keeps up

Yeah, Boston lost game 1 to the Cavs but they were the better team for a large part of the game. Not the case tonight. They were dominated in pretty much every aspect of the game. Had the Lakers not gotten comforable with a 20 point lead, this could have easily been a 30 point blowout. The Lakers played well defensively and offensively. Kobe did what he had to do. Gasol took it to Garnett all night long. Artest and Fisher made some shots. Heck, even Bynum played well. The fact of the matter is, if the Lakers bring their A-game every night, they can't be beat. They didn't have it tonight and still won rather easily.

Short series if this keeps up

I still think this seris goes 6 games, the Celtics will win a couple at home.  But if the Lakers play with this intensity the whole seris, the Celtics will wear down eventually.  I think nothing will stop Kobe from winning number 5, as long as his teammates compliment hi,m.

Short series if this keeps up

The key to this series is going to be Artest locking down Pierce. It showed tonight that Artest got in Pierce's head and took him totally out of his game. Another point is that there is no way Ray Allen can guard Kobe. With Kobe not having to guard Pierce and having a smaller Allen trying to check him, I expect Kobe to go for at least 30 every night. The series is far from over but the way to win this series is alot clearer for the Lakers.
