Terrelle Pryor thinks you're stupid

Posted on: January 2, 2011 11:19 am

Full disclosure: I want to believe in Ohio State. I live in Ohio, my two kids will attend college most likely in Ohio, and my goal is that they attend Ohio State.

So this question is not coming from a Buckeyes basher when I ask the following:

How stupid does Terrelle Pryor think we are?

The memorabilia he sold, against NCAA rules, basically got a free pass from me. Seriously, check out my reaction to the story that Pryor and four teammates would be suspended next season, but be allowed to play Tuesday night in the Sugar Bowl. I loved that reaction from the NCAA. If my reaction was pro-Ohio State, so be it. I'm an Ohio guy, and my initial thoughts were of other Ohio residents.

But this story ...

This car story ...

Complete garbage. Everything about it stinks, from the alleged NCAA crime to the announced excuse. All of it. Garbage.

In a nutshell, Pryor has a habit of getting his hands on cars -- nice cars -- from Columbus-area dealerships, and then getting caught speeding in them. Someone smarter than me, please figure out the odds on that:

Pryor has these cars -- nice cars -- for a day or two, and without fail, he gets caught speeding. In that tiny, day-or-two window of time.

Every time.

Garbage.

I don't believe it. Sorry, I don't. I don't believe Pryor had those cars for only a day or two. I don't believe the car dealer. I don't believe Ohio State. I don't believe any of you.

I still want my kids to go to Ohio State. But at the moment, I want Terrelle Pryor to turn pro after the Sugar Bowl. Don't come back next season. I can live with you avoiding punishment for your memorabilia "ignorance."

But I'm not sure I can stomach the sight of you in an OSU uniform in 2011. That'll be my kids' school, you know. And Terrelle Pryor is starting to make me sick.

Mike D

I agree that some of the programs will do just about anything to keep the violations out of the public eye.  That is exactly why they classify them as "breaking team rules."  No where is this practice more prevalant than in the SEC.  I always wondered how beating your girlfriend at gunpoint and armed robbery were violations of team rules.  I think the average penalty in the SEC for these crimes is suspension for about a quarter.  If you are going to comment on the subject, COMMENT ON THE SUBJECT.

And why your at it.  Remember when the fab 5 was tearing up the NCAA bb scene.  During his freshman year, Jalen Rose was arrested for buying crack cocaine at a crack house in Detroit.  Michigan is no different.

Pryor will end his career at OSU and not make it in ther nfl.  Does anybody remember a guy named Maurice Clarett?  He also went to OSU.  Alot of class at that school.

I think if we start firing every male that has an affair, we might just have an unemployment rate of over 50%!
Bottom line, Pitino entered into a consensual relationship in a location that had been closed to the public. All of this came to light only because the woman, who has a history of suing for sexual harassment, tried to blackmail Pitino.
I'm not going to speak for the quality of Pitino's marriage, but I doubt that affairs are all that uncommon in coaching circles, Given that statistics show that over 60% of married men have had affairs, and those are the ones that admit it, I think your code of personal ethics leading to a termination might be tougher than most.
I'm not defending his actions, but, at the same time, I think it would be difficult to terminate him for it. At the same time, it's also unfair but true, that successful coaches get a lot more leeway than less successful coaches.

Every school has compliance officers.  And they don't report to the AD or the Athletic Department, they usually report to a Vice President.  That way they can't be pressured into anything.

Maybe every school should hire a compliance officer, but then they are assigned to another school within the conference.  Might make them a bit more diligent.

Oh, and in Pitino's defense, I believe that sex occured on a table, not the floor.

5 stars for Mike.

Not only does he get it right, but for the right reasons.  It is not about race - not sure how the colour of a star college QB's skin matters in this.  Its about what kids at the big schools get for playing the same game a kid at, say, Eastern Oregon, has to pay for.  And the education at OSU is meant to be better than EOU, so how can anyone complain?  If they didn;t like the terms, they should have played Arena Football and hoped to get drafted from there.

The example of the graduate working for a company who makes a profit - gold.  But some will argue that the employee got paid cash and just won't get it.

I also like to think about all of the other programs that football profits help pay for - the swimming, track and field etc that don;t make money but produce world class athletes.  It would be great if some of the money went to kids with brains who need scholarships, but the world doesn't turn that way.

Brilliant work Mike.

If you break the rules, you break the rules.   Even gangs have codes and rules and you get punished if you don't follow them.
He gets more financial reward from his scholarship then an average person does in a real job.  We get tired of race being
the reasons for punishment when it is really the person breaking the rules.
