You don't like Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari? Fine. You have ammunition.

Calipari recruits kids he knows will spend one or two years on campus, kids interested more in pursuing the NBA than their college degree, and if that's the sort of thing that bugs you, complain about that.

Calipari has taken three schools to the Final Four, and two of them had to vacate that appearance because of NCAA violations involving a player -- not a coach, but a player. But if that's the sort of thing you want to lay at the head coach's feet, fine. Lay it there. Complain about that.

But what you can't do -- what ESPN commentator Bob Knight did do the other day -- is ignore the pile of facts at your disposal and make up your own. And come up with your own half-truth or even your own outright lie, and use that to attack John Calipari.

But again, that's what Bob Knight did the other day when he defamed the entire starting five on Kentucky's team in 2009-10 by saying, "Kentucky (that season) started five players in the NCAA tournament games that had not been to class that semester."

Interesting statement. But an outright lie. It makes Calipari, who clearly isn't on Knight's list of people he likes, look bad. But it makes five young men look awful, and unfairly so. Because John Wall went to class that semester and made the honor roll. Patrick Patterson went to class that semester and earned his degree -- in his third year. I don't know what Kentucky's other three starters earned that semester, but if Knight thinks they didn't go to school, well, that's all I need to know to believe otherwise.

Because Bob Knight has no idea what he's talking about.

I'm not big on, "So-and-so owes an apology!" But today, Bob Knight owes an apology to John Calipari, and to Patrick Patterson, and to John Wall, and to the rest of Kentucky's starting five. He said something awful about them, something blatantly untrue, and he needs to correct it.

But he's a bad guy, so he won't say a damn thing unless ESPN makes him.

So that's where we stand. What's it going to be, ESPN?

You going to allow this?

When an idiot speaks, starring Bob Knight

I suppose it takes a moron to know an idiot. Although given doyel's history of racism and support for the nazi party, I'm not surprised he was able to call out Bobby Knight.

PS - I know from good sources that doyel got that hammer at a gay s&m shop, and it's more for anal intrusions than looking tough

Just like Gary Williams needs an apology from you blasting him for not giving you an interview regarding the Debbie Yow incident. Talk about a little Doyel cry baby.

I'm not sure you followed me exactly.  You have the disdain part perfect, but it's the records and book-keeping I think you misunderstood.  The fiasco at Memphis with Derrick Rose's SAT scores is proof enough to me that a Calipari run program has the ability to put whatever it wants into academic records.  As for their attendance, who hasn't had their buddy sign their name on a class roster while they skip?  Especially when that buddy is John Wall.  Hey, maybe he'll remember this when he's a big star and he'll hook up his buddy in Statistics class.  Who knows?  This was a comment made by an opinionated man, just like Doyel or anyone else on the planet.  Today's sports world is full or liars and cheaters, yet the man who never cheated a day in his life is among the most hated.  Maybe UK fans are just overprotective of their coach.  I would be too if it was looming in the back of my mind that any day the allegations could start rolling out and the coach will jump ship to protect himself, leaving a program in shambles.

The man not only instructed Knight in a mandatory English class at OSU but also punched the Clemson kid Bauman in the throat during the 1978 Rose bowl game or tore up the sidelines, markers, and threw the penalty flag into the crowd in 1971 against Michigan, and even hit his own player in the head in the 60's after telling him to take his helmet off.....I don't see any connection at all there do you?

Yes, I'm well aware of Woody's temper and sideline antics.  That is why I said, Coach Hayes was a lot of things...some bad, but mostly good.  It appears you were incapable of reading between those lines.  But since you bring it up, how many football (or basketball) coaches do you know of that actually taught college courses?  Professor Hayes taught PE, Freshman English and Military History.

What I object to is your assertation that he told lies about those he dislikes, ala Bob Knight.  Woody Hayes did an amazing amount of good when it came to his community and teaching boys to become good men.  But all you SEC clods can ever remember were the few times he lost his temper and showed his ass.  BTW smart guy, Clemson has never played in the Rose Bowl...not in 1978, not ever.  Get your facts straight.

I'd love to hear or see your proof that Cousins, Wall and Bledsoe skipped classes.  You say it as if you know DEFINITIVELY just like Knight said it.  Let me ask you this... If Knight were right, then why is this a national news story blasting him?
You also said "he doesn't like the Calipari way of doing things.  He knows it isn't right."  What makes it wrong again?  Why would Calipari want the top high school kids to go to other colleges?  As a head coach of a top program, isn't it his job to get the best players out there?  Is it Calipari's fault that the NCAA makes those kids go to school for a year? What if you boss said to you "We want you to be the top salesman this year or else  your fired.  We have one year contracts for you to get signed.  Here are 10 guaranteed leads.  Oh by the way, you are only allowed to go after 2 of them."  How stupid is that? That's what you sound like right now.

Wow, you're an idiot. Even more completely baseless accusations than what Knight said. Stupidity must be contagious. Why are only Kentucky haters the ones who think he was justified, because he was'nt and he was out of line for what he said. Patterson graduated, Wall made honor roll and Miller played this year, so thats makes him a liar right there. Keep dreaming if you think Cal's cheating at UK, becauses he's not, he doesn't have to.

Knight was obviously using hyperbole, and he apologized.  What's the big deal?  He was trying to make a point that has some validity.  I think the one-and-done rule is ridiculous.
