You don't like Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari? Fine. You have ammunition.

Calipari recruits kids he knows will spend one or two years on campus, kids interested more in pursuing the NBA than their college degree, and if that's the sort of thing that bugs you, complain about that.

Calipari has taken three schools to the Final Four, and two of them had to vacate that appearance because of NCAA violations involving a player -- not a coach, but a player. But if that's the sort of thing you want to lay at the head coach's feet, fine. Lay it there. Complain about that.

But what you can't do -- what ESPN commentator Bob Knight did do the other day -- is ignore the pile of facts at your disposal and make up your own. And come up with your own half-truth or even your own outright lie, and use that to attack John Calipari.

But again, that's what Bob Knight did the other day when he defamed the entire starting five on Kentucky's team in 2009-10 by saying, "Kentucky (that season) started five players in the NCAA tournament games that had not been to class that semester."

Interesting statement. But an outright lie. It makes Calipari, who clearly isn't on Knight's list of people he likes, look bad. But it makes five young men look awful, and unfairly so. Because John Wall went to class that semester and made the honor roll. Patrick Patterson went to class that semester and earned his degree -- in his third year. I don't know what Kentucky's other three starters earned that semester, but if Knight thinks they didn't go to school, well, that's all I need to know to believe otherwise.

Because Bob Knight has no idea what he's talking about.

I'm not big on, "So-and-so owes an apology!" But today, Bob Knight owes an apology to John Calipari, and to Patrick Patterson, and to John Wall, and to the rest of Kentucky's starting five. He said something awful about them, something blatantly untrue, and he needs to correct it.

But he's a bad guy, so he won't say a damn thing unless ESPN makes him.

So that's where we stand. What's it going to be, ESPN?

You going to allow this?

When an idiot speaks, starring Bob Knight

Knight's a bad guy? What makes him "bad"? The fact he is a conservative, disciplinarian, whose graduation rate was the highest among all of his so called "peers"? The fact that he won at Indiana with players who weren't NBA caliber, and considered "sexy"? Is he "bad" because of his temperament? Funny thing is that when John Thompson and John Chaney exhibit the same characteristics, they are said to have "passion" for the game. (Some of us recall Chaney being restrained, screaming he was "...going to kill you (Calipari). No, what makes Knight "bad" is that he isn't politically correct in the eyes of the progressive media. He's not one of them. Having spent a couple of evenings with Knight, he is not the guy you think you he is. Most of what you see is "schtick". He's an avid outdoorsman, who would rather talk trout fishing than basketball. He stays in contact with his former players. He knows where they live, where they work, and how many kids they have. He has a big heart, which he deliberately tries to keep hidden, so as to preserve his image. In addition to his coaching duties at Indiana, he also taught a class. A class in which you earned a "C" if you missed once, and failed if you missed twice. Knight demanded his players attend ALL classes. He despises the state of today's game, and the level it has sunken to. The "one and done" thing gnaws at him. He doesn't like the "Calipari Way" of doing things. He knows it isn't right. Bob Knight played by the rules. Outside of Patrick Patterson, whom we know attended class, how far off base do you think Knight really was? Think about it. Every guy that was knew he was leaving, didn't have to attend a single class after Christmas break. Do you think DeMarcus Cousins spent much time doing classwork? I'll lay even money that Cousins, Wall, and Bledsoe missed more classes than they attended that last semester. It's not right. It's not the way that basketball programs should be run. But to the liberal media, Calipari is "good" and Knight is "bad". Sorry, but we can look at Knight's Indiana teams, and Calipari's teams, and it's not too difficult to see right and wrong.

When an idiot speaks, starring Bob Knight

As a local sports reporter said, when Knight was a coach he blasted the media for talking about things they knew nothing about.  Now, he is a member of the media, talking about things he knows nothing about.

And how many people have you baselessly attacked over the years, Gregg? When was the last time YOU ever apologized to anyone for some of the things YOU'VE said?
Dude, it's his job to be obnoxious. Knight is a well-respected coach and a commentator. Knight prides himself on his integrity and reputation. Doyel doesn't give a hoot and loves to tweak everyone including his viewers. I mean his mail bag is titled hate mail.

UK_razy....the reason they dont go to the other schools is because Crapapari is the biggest cheat in the family free trips, or hires there parents to help coach...whatever it takes to get them into "the program"...He ruined UMass, he ruined Memphis and by the time is all said and done he will destroy UK...Bob Knight hasnt liked UK since the 70's thats no secret but he called it like he see's it...Crapapari gets more one and doens than any other school...He is trying to buy himself a championship and it hasnt worked...WHY??? cause he sucks as a coach...You have 5 first rounders and you cant win thats crazy...He pays them to come and they get the heck out before it goes all Reggie Bush or Cam Newton on them....It will hit the fan soon for Kentucky...Crapapri will get fired and UK will have to vacate all there tourney wins this year...wait and for Coach Knights apology...I lost some respect for him to bowing down to public pressure...He was right and justified in what he said...

Lets be honest does anyone believe that any of these one and done players are doing any work at all. The Schools just push these guys through with no acocuntability. To be honest in terms of academics most of these players have no business attending these schools. Bob Knight is stating the obvious and anyone who believes Kentucky's players GPA is legit is pretty naive. It is business the schools make money of the athletes and in return for their performance the grades are given. It is the same at every program it just so happens that Coach Cal is the sleaziest cheater of the bunch and always seems to bring in the recruits that raise the red flags. He deserves every bit of criticism that comes his way.

You know, the Bobby Knight bullshit aside, because only friggin' idiots believe a word that comes out of his ass for a mouth, look at the bigger picture.  No one likes the one-and-done rule.  I don't.  I would rather see the kids from these top-ranked recruiting classes stay a few years.  But, that isn't the system currently in place.  These kids are going to play somewhere, so it might as well be UK.  As for the pathetic little crying bitches on here, the only reason you have issues with this is these kids think your schools suck, and won't come there.  If they had, your lying asses wouldn't be saying a word.  And no one on these boards will tell anyone that they would pass up a John Wall or Cousins because they were one-and-dones.  And if you do, you're a damn liar, and yes, I will be more than happy to say that to the face of any of you little pussies on here crying like bitches.  You don't like all these blue-chippers coming to UK?  Get a coach who can recruit worth a damn.  Until then, sit down, shut the hell up and try to at least act a little intelligent.
