NCAA attacks Boise State's nickels and dimes

Posted on: May 4, 2011 5:58 pm

Ohio State employs a football coach who hid violations by his star player, violations that would have made that player ineligible -- an ineligibility that would have rendered Ohio State something short of the Big Ten champion it became.

The NCAA decided that Ohio State has institutional control.

Then along comes Boise State. That school saw 79 student-athletes in several sports receive excessive lodging, travel and meals worth $5,652 over four years. That might sound like a lot, but it's not. It's an average cost of $71 in excess items per player. That's one lunch here, one cab ride there. That's nothing, in the grand scheme of things -- and it's certainly nothing nefarious.

The NCAA decided Boise State lacks institutional control.

This, NCAA, is why so many people think you're so full of crap. Because you think Ohio State is on top of things. And you think Boise State isn't.

How obvious...if you can't beat this tiny Bronco program on the field, bunch-up and trump-up miniscule problems (that shouldn't be violations) into something way out of proportion and have blowhards in suits beat them off the field. Unlike affluent programs, who were given passes after getting caught trying to get away bigger stuff, the Broncos self-reported and fixed these violations. Lesson: if you're a tiny program doing well on the field, keep your dirty laundry secret (no matter how insignificant). By any measure, this is ridiculous and ugly for college football.

NCAA has no qualms about showing their panties with the big bold BCS logo on 'em.  Looking pretty in them pink undies, Emmert!

JT is dirty, was dirty, and will most likely be dirty as long as he is a coach.

Didn't Youngstown get put on probation right after he left?

Was the "benfactor" for Clarett someone from Youngstown who was also part of that problem (that occurred WHILE JT was at that school)?

Until the NCAA starts making COACHES serve the probationary terms (without pay) that they impose on schools it won't change.

Just like years ago they supposedly had a mandatory ethics seminar that was taught be Kelvim Sampson (yes THAT Sampson LOL).

The NCAA has favorites and people they don't like (always have back to the days when Tarkanian was "evil incarnate" but the NCAA kept looking the other way as UCLA won all those titles).

It's quite sad actually.

So are some of you guys cool with Boise playing someone in a sport who wasn't a student? I can agree that the NCAA rules/enforcement are stupid, but seriously have issues if ou think selling stuff is in the same boatt as playing someone who isn't a student.

I will also say again. I think JT should be punished and won't cry when it happens.

Remember, if you're a big school, you have to kill someone to get in trouble.  Upstart from the outside?  Look at someone funny and get the hammer.

The NCAA and the BCS can go to hell.

Who cares if it was tennis, volleyball, or any other sport. It is "Institutional" not football program control. I say again "Institutional".
