Take a seat, James Harrison

So how hard does Roger Goodell hit James Harrison?

It has to be hard, right? In other leagues, players -- star players -- utter gay-bashing slurs and are fined large sums of money. Harrison just uttered one ... and according to this account of a story in Men's Journal, he uttered it about Roger Goodell.

So I'm thinking $250,000 and a game suspension. Maybe more, given that Harrison has been a thorn in the league's side for years -- handing out concussions as if they were lollipops, attacking players in the head in an era when that is strictly forbidden. This is an accumulation of offenses, of various varieties, and Harrison isn't getting the message.

Whatever Goodell does to Harrison, I'll support it.

And I'm thinking Ben Roethlisberger might enjoy it, too. Don't tell me you missed what Harrison told Men's Journal about his quarterback's play in the Super Bowl loss to Green Bay:

"Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain't that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does."

The Mysterious Mind of James Harrison

Some people's minds are just wired differently. Remember the reason Harrison gave for refusing to visit the White House after the Steelers' most recent Super Bowl victory?

Harrison: If you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don't win the Super Bowl. So as far as I'm concerned he would have invited Arizona if they had won.

This is clearly a guy who is not very swift on the uptake, as both this asainine comment and this recent rant demonstrates. (I mean, the Super Bowl comment is so idiotic its funny!) His mouth is now putting his career in jeopardy. Forget about what he said about Goodell - no athlete can throw that many teammates under the bus without lasting consequences.

Talented player.

Great work ethic and determination to break into the NFL.

No impulse control.

Dear douchebag,
250k + suspension would be nice. Except the fact that there is no league so the rules do not apply. He could go out and drunkenly rape your mother (the only real way that anyone would want to rape her) and Goodell can't implement any disciplinary action.

Which begs the question: What sort of drinking problem DID your father have to willingly do that?

Hey, Burgh Ruler.  On what facts do you base your statement "Most fans think Roger Goodel is..."?  I don't think that and many of the people I know feel the same way.  And when it comes to what Ben is thinking about Harrison's statements, well, it doesn't take much heart or mind to know what ANYONE would think after reading that kind of backstabbing, buddy-f^^king BS.  Just sayin...

It's open season to bash religion, conservative values or the working middle class for that matter on a regular basis - but don't you dare say an off color word about a homosexual or an illegal alien. Look people, words are just that - WORDS. Remember the simple saying "sticks and stones"? Get a life or at least get out of everyone else's life if you can't handle it. The simple line "utter gay-bashing slurs" you use in your rant expose you as a prissy drama queen yourself. And I'm thinking you have no idea what Ben thinks about Harrison's interview. By the way, most fans see Goodell as a pompous idiot who seems bent on destroying the game and Harrison is just being Harrison (an over achieving, under educated goon with phenomenal drive and heart). At least he's not driving the country off of a cliff all on his own. Put it in perspectuve and get over it son.

250k seems a little steep for speaking your mind in the United States of America.
Even if you're speaking non sense.

In a way I guess you could look at it as steep, but compared to what happens in the real world it's nothing at all.   One, the fines are well within the CBA the player's union signed and agreed to so it's not anything the owners or Goodell just dream up on their own.  Second of all where in this world can anybody publicly smash the president or CEO of their company and still have a job the next day?  Players are lucky they get to play football at all after they go on tirades like the on James Harrison went on.... The guy is brutal... everything that comes out of his mouth is crap and flat out bad for business and the NFL's reputation.  I honestly think he should have been booted out of the league a long time ago...

If you weren't offended-you wouldn't have brought it up and devoted a paragraph to it.

Nope. Not offended. Just calling you out.

you come across as a know-everything blowhard and you generally turn passionate sports conversations into a bunch name-calling and shouting on threads. You're never bring any productive or profound perspective to any of these conversations.

Click on my history and some other threads I've been on.  I've brought plenty to the table.  I might get carried away here and there but i bring plenty of perspective... go on now... read my stuff and you'll see you're wrong.

I had a relative with Down's syndrome, so I don't think it's cool to constantly call people I disagree with on SPORTS retards.

So that has a relative with Down's syndrome is wishing chemo and death on somebody in  a sports chat room and you're calling me the bad guy?  LOL  Too funny again.... I've never wished sickness or death on a person in my life.....   actually the more I think about it I don't believe you have a relative with Down's syndrome and if you do I don't believe you give a shit about this relative.  People that are close to family that have a disease like that don't wish a slow painful death for others..

Like I said man, you are a disgrace......  Ok, now I'm done with you.  People like you are only good for exposing and then simply just spitting them out... I'm not going back and forth anymore with human garbage like you.

actually the NFL can fire anyone they want at any time. There is no such thing as "guaranteed money" in NFL contracts only thing teams absolutely are on the hook for are signing bonuses. Any player can be termenated at any time, unless they are on injured reserve.

Not true at all. Many people believe what you do but it's wrong.  NFL players sign contracts for x amount of dollars over so many years. So much is guaranteed and the rest isn't.   Jamarcus Russel lasted as long as he did because the Raiders were forced to pay him even if they benched him.   James Harrison for example signed a 50 million dollar extension in 2009 with 20 guaranteed.  He's only received about 15.3 million so far.  If the Steelers want to cut him they have to write him a check for another 5 million dollars....  all guaranteed dollars are paid. That's why you have some lousy starters getting chance after chance to succeed.... owners don't like to cut or bench anybody if they have to write them a huge check.

Hopefully the NFL just whipes the slate clean after the lockout and let's all the indiscresions during the lockout go unpunished.
Not sure how the personal conduct rule works during a lockout, but I think it would help repair some of the distrust and dislike of Goodell by the players if they start fresh.
And hopefully these knucklehead players STOP shooting off at the mouth about every little thing that is going on!!!
You are professional athletes, not writers!

Awww, Whatever

If you weren't offended-you wouldn't have brought it up and devoted a paragraph to it.

Face it, these are just sports and hurling insults at people just because you disagree with them about some aspect of SPORTS isn't cool.

You stay on here as though you are the end-all, be-all to any conversation, you have no respect for others opinions, you come across as a know-everything blowhard and you generally turn passionate sports conversations into a bunch name-calling and shouting on threads. Don't get offended Mr. "moron". As much as you name-call on these boards, don't get your feelings hurt. I KNEW i could make you walk in the shoes of those you respond to with insults. Have a nice day!Cool

The cancer comment is no more offensive the walking around calling people retards-how do you think others like that coming from your mouth?

Take your medicine.

Offended?  Too funny !!!!!!!!!!!  As if man.... people like you can't offend me.  Just because I call you out doesn't mean I'm offended.. you give yourself way too much credit.   Calling people morons after they insult me, insult others or say the dumbest things is one thing... you take it to another level.

The cancer and chemo comment you made though is an insult to every person sitting in an office today wondering if they are going to survive. Wondering if they are going to live long enough to see their kids grow up.... just using that word the way you did is an insult to everybody that has lost somebody to that terrible disease.

I'll say it again.  You are a disgrace and a poor excuse for a human being.  Saying that doesn't mean i'm personally offended by your comments because I'm not.  Just letting you know that everybody knows you now... tough to do in a chat forum like this but with you it's easy...... you're a disgrace to society and I hope you never pass on your thinking to children.   If you never have kids our world will be a better place
