Donte Whitner is a bad guy

Posted on: August 5, 2011 11:49 am
Donte Whitner is a liar and a fraud, and the Bengals have had plenty of those over the years. Good riddance to you, Whitner. Didn't want you in Cincinnati anyway.

But the way he went about his business, choosing the 49ers over the Bengals ...

Disgraceful. Just awful. Donte Whitner had come to terms with the Bengals -- agreed on a contract and everything -- and then pulled a Carlos Boozer and took more money from someone else.

On the intellectual side, I get it. X dollars from one team, or X-plus-Y dollars from another? You choose X-plus-Y ...

... unless you've already given your word to the team offering X. And then you stick by your word, because that's what an honorable person does.

Whitner isn't honorable. He's a clown. And then, after Tweeting that he had would play for the Bengals, he had the gall to Tweet that he would play for the 49ers instead and credited God for the change of plans.

As if God would approve of the way Donte Whitner went about this whole thing.

Stupid. Appalling. Self-centered.

Given all that, Whitner would have been the perfect Bengal. But we're getting rid of clowns like that in Cincinnati, so it's for the best that this one didn't come here after all.

How can you say: look what they are given Carson Palmer? Palmer signed a contract and chose not to honor it.

I don't care if the contract is signed or not. In sports, team synergy is more important then talent to win championships. In order to keep this synergy alive you get rid of the players who will not give 110% to the team. In order to feed this synergy, manage every member with the greatest respect. To receive respect you must first show it. To treat Palmer the way his doing, like a kid who didn't get two full scoops on his cone, this shows all the rest of the players how dedicated his focus is on winning contracts instead of winning the superbowl.

This is why Chris Johnson played as an individual, changed his name, and focus his attention on twitter. If you don't beleive me, just watch how he plays this season. Patriots will demonstrate again how strong a fuel synergy is when you spray it on talent.

As someone else already pointed out it's not a contract until all parties sign. But you acknowledge that with your preface statement "On the intellectual side". Too bad you let your "idiot side" take over and write this piece.

As someone else already pointed out, it's not a contract until the parties sign and even then there are ways out. But then again you acknowledge that with your preface of "On the intellectual side". You should stuck with that instead of letting your "idiot side" take over and right this piece.

This reaction is way over the top for what amount to a business decision. This guy has to do what's right for his family. People recommit all the time. If he didn't sign the contract it's not an issue. To call him out as a bad person, a liar, and a fraud? Classless. It's really getting old hearing about fans from Ohio that believe athletes owe them something. Cleveland and Cinncinatti have long been the dumps when it comes to cities athletes want to play in. The horrible, bitter, mean spirited fans aren't helping.

I didn't think there were any honorable people in the NFL. He's no different from anyone else. Looking out for ole number one. Always did hate the God references. Just think he might have better things to worry about than player contracts. Very arrogant and bold statement.

How can you say: look what they are given Carson Palmer? Palmer signed a contract and chose not to honor it. This owner did nothing to Palmer. As far as these other guys are concerned, if you sign a front loaded contract at the beginning you should be smart enough to know the waning years you will be playing for less. I'm tired of listening to whiny ass players and fans that believe these guys are getting a raw deal and they shouldn't have to play for a measly 3 or 4 million. Grow the hell up and get a taste of reality. This is a freakin game that these guys are getting paid millions to play. The owners invested in their teams to make money and are entitled to do so. Nobody forced these guys to sign 4 - 5 year contracts.

This is a joke right?

 1. why would anyone think that you have to keep your word to Mr Brown. The man is a cheap skate and full of crap. He won't let Palmer go cause of some higher standard he lives by, but cuts players all the time. Why doesn't he have to live up to his own standards? Oh yeah that's right cause he is full of crap.

 2. It's not a contract till it's signed. So nothing was wrong or illegal about it. If the Bengals wanted they could have offered the same to keep him. But they are to cheap to do that.

 3. This is nothing like the boozer situation. He wasn't under contract and ask to be released to sign a better contract with the team to help them out (and himself I'm sure). He was a free agent able to sign where ever he wanted to. That is what he did. That is all he did. Not some elaborate lie to get out of a town he didn't want to be in anymore. Bret Favre did that to the Jets, but did you go off about that?

So don't be an angry Bengals fan and a writer at the same time. Be a fare writer and a angry fan in your spare time.

Plenty of people love to live in Cincy my friend. Kind of an idiot statement coming from someone who lives in Arkansas. Despite the fact they have a football team owned by another idiot, their is nothing wrong with Cincinnati or the surrounding area's.

everyone here seems to state that this happens all the time, where a player takes more money to go to a different team. However, in my 25 years of following sports i have never heard a player publicly state he would sign with a team, only to then back out when another offer comes up.

First of all, I must say that I am a Bengal fan And you are right about the owner he is the worst owner in the NFL.And the people of bengal nation can't stand him. There are signs all over the stadium that say "step down brown". Palmer had a contract to fulfill. And he didn't, He decided to QUIT!So there for if I was DO DO BROWN. I would do the same thing.
Palmer has been garbage since he hurt his knee in the first round of playoffs a few years back. (jets).though I have to say he is the best pick six Q.B.
