Donte Whitner is a bad guy

Posted on: August 5, 2011 11:49 am
Donte Whitner is a liar and a fraud, and the Bengals have had plenty of those over the years. Good riddance to you, Whitner. Didn't want you in Cincinnati anyway.

But the way he went about his business, choosing the 49ers over the Bengals ...

Disgraceful. Just awful. Donte Whitner had come to terms with the Bengals -- agreed on a contract and everything -- and then pulled a Carlos Boozer and took more money from someone else.

On the intellectual side, I get it. X dollars from one team, or X-plus-Y dollars from another? You choose X-plus-Y ...

... unless you've already given your word to the team offering X. And then you stick by your word, because that's what an honorable person does.

Whitner isn't honorable. He's a clown. And then, after Tweeting that he had would play for the Bengals, he had the gall to Tweet that he would play for the 49ers instead and credited God for the change of plans.

As if God would approve of the way Donte Whitner went about this whole thing.

Stupid. Appalling. Self-centered.

Given all that, Whitner would have been the perfect Bengal. But we're getting rid of clowns like that in Cincinnati, so it's for the best that this one didn't come here after all.

Gregg are the clown!  "he would've been the perfect Bengal but we are getting rid of clowns like him".  What does that even mean?

You summed up exactly who YOU are with that statement.  Don't be a sore loser like your pathetic Bengals.  I'm sure this is long time hatred of the
49ers for kicking your asses for all those years when you actually had a team.

I get the point but I think it's off the mark. Everyone can change their minds whenever they want until they are contractually committed. A verbal committment isn't the same thing, obvioulsy, as a "done deal".

Has Doyel ever fibbed about his previous salary when looking for a job? I don't know but probably. Is that dishonorable or just business.

I think the same applies here.

Yes but the other players never agreed to terms with any of those teams.  They never themselves said they were going to those teams.  Why I think the attack is a little over the top, it is not without merit.  Ohio's sports teams have a long history of players being totally unloyal and double dealing.  It's no wonder why someone went after him.

Its not like he would turn that awful team around anyway!

Wow Doyle, you sound like a 5 year old baby. Take the rose colored glasses off and realize Cincinnati is one of the worst franchises to play for in the NFL. Even a classy guy like Carson Palmer wants out. The Bengals have a dead coach who would have been fired by any other good owner years ago. The only reason Lewis is still there is because the Bengals are so cheap.
I do agree, blaming God is a joke. Blaming God for anything, good or bad decision, is just plain stupid. Other than that, if I were Whitner and I had a last minute out of Cincy, I'd be out of town too. With all factors considered (location, ownership, coach, etc) the Bengals are the second worst franchise to play for in the NFL. Second to the Raiders.

What a ridiculous attack.  Really, does anyone think that this is a big deal?  He didn't sign with the Bengals.  Before he signed the deal he got a better offer.  It might suck for the Bengals, but this happens all the time with more significant players.  Stop taking yourselves so seriously.

I find it highly ironic and hypocritical of Greg Doyle to call Donte Whitner a liar and a fraud when he did not do anything wrong. He said that he signed with the Bengals, but eventually signed with the 49ers. Acording to Mike Lombardi Zach Miller, Nnamdi Asomugha and a few other players were sure to sign with certain teams, but they eventually signed elsewhere. I won't call Doyle an idiot....but if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck....

And the fact that Doyle did not include his byline in this article tells the world that even he is embarrassed about his own writing. the right thing and fire Greg Doyle! You have are not Yahoo Sports.
