Donte Whitner is a bad guy

Posted on: August 5, 2011 11:49 am
Donte Whitner is a liar and a fraud, and the Bengals have had plenty of those over the years. Good riddance to you, Whitner. Didn't want you in Cincinnati anyway.

But the way he went about his business, choosing the 49ers over the Bengals ...

Disgraceful. Just awful. Donte Whitner had come to terms with the Bengals -- agreed on a contract and everything -- and then pulled a Carlos Boozer and took more money from someone else.

On the intellectual side, I get it. X dollars from one team, or X-plus-Y dollars from another? You choose X-plus-Y ...

... unless you've already given your word to the team offering X. And then you stick by your word, because that's what an honorable person does.

Whitner isn't honorable. He's a clown. And then, after Tweeting that he had would play for the Bengals, he had the gall to Tweet that he would play for the 49ers instead and credited God for the change of plans.

As if God would approve of the way Donte Whitner went about this whole thing.

Stupid. Appalling. Self-centered.

Given all that, Whitner would have been the perfect Bengal. But we're getting rid of clowns like that in Cincinnati, so it's for the best that this one didn't come here after all.

California > Ohio.

Of course he would do that!  Who wants to live in Cincinatti compared to San Francisco.

To me what he did is business, nothing is final till you sign a contract.

The contracts are written and agreed to by both parties. They consist of signing bonuses based on how long the contract, they consist of yearly pay, and the third element states which part is guaranteed. In other words, some, all or none of the contract may not be guarnteed. In essence, the owners always pay the guaranteed portion even if they choose to cut a player early. They are not on the hook for the unguaranteed portion. The part the player agreed to when he signed the contract. I truly wish people were not so ignorant and keep thorwing out deceitful information. get the facts before you start ranting.

LOL.  First off, you apparently missed the entire point.  The agreement a team has with a player in a contract as you have described above, is far more concrete than a verbal agreement on an unsigned contract.  Therefore, if the breaking a verbal agreement - that all parties knew was not set in stone until the contract was signed - renders one a "bad guy," then choosing to break the signed contract - whether legal or not - would thusly render the party breaking the contract a "bad guy" also.

I am not talking about legality here - neither is Doyel - the issue is over breaking a verbal agreement.

I truly wish people who be objective once in a while, instead of the homers they actually are.  You should almost be embarrased to call my post "decietful," when you go onto call Whitner a "low life," because he dissed your team.

Donte Whitner is a bad guy

I don't think Donte Whitner is a bad guy. He basically turned down playing for the Cinninati Bengals to play for the San Franciso 49ers.  How dare he decide to get paid more money at a franchise that historically actually tries to win its division, and cares about its players. The failure is not Donte Whitners. The failure is the owner of the Bungels Mike Brown. Since Brown became owner, the team has had only 2 winning seasons out of 20 and has a winning percentage of .361 (115-204-1) in the regular season and .000 (0-2) in the playoffs.  Who really wants to play for Brown?

Have a Tissue...Ya Big Baby...

Didn't we just finished a 5 month lockout? The fact that you're shocked by this says more about you than Donte. We are past the days were a player holding out for more money or a player pulling a move like this is surprising. Joe Shmoe Football Fan has learned to expect NFL employees to be NFL employees: Greedy. Use your resourses as a professional writter to come up with something better than a bitter bengal column.

Came to his senses before signing the contract is more likely. The 49's are nowhere near the best run team but the Bungals are at or near the bottom.

Donte Whitner is a bad guy

First off pretty unprofessional column. Are you guys seriously that bored that you write pointless articles. Your a professional writer not a high school cheerleader writing on twitter about how kim sucks for stealing your boyfriend.  I come to this site for information not to hear your complaints; save that shit for your therapist. Nothing is set in stone till a contract is signed so sitting here bagging on a guy because another team swooped in and offered him something better is stupid. And for his twitter post if he thought he was going there first it makes sense he would tweet about it. People make mistakes but don't deserved to be ripped apart for it. Its embarrising for football a mans game to have some wuss write an article crying about someones life decisions, grow a pair bro. And what you don't think teams break off commitments to players before they sign when something better comes along. And obviously you have a bunch of Bengals fan riding your coat tails. Because anyone one who cares enough to support this less than informative article is out of their mind.

Donte Whitner is a bad guy

Donte Whitner has been rather dissapionting for how high the Buffalo Bills drafted him. He is a decent player but drops 60% of his interception chances. Lots of ex-Bills end up in San Francico to become 49ers for some reason. We will see if he pans out, I doubt it. I think the Bengals just saved some money.
