Steelers went soft, and lost

Posted on: November 6, 2011 11:57 pm

Mike Tomlin was scared to kick a 46-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter, and his team lost because of it. Up 20-16, he punted instead of going for the long field goal.

The punt put the Ravens at the 8. It worked, in the micro-sense. But the Ravens drove for a touchdown that won the game 24-20 -- not forced overtime at 24-all.

That was the call of the game. Mistake, in hindsight.

Steelers went soft, and lost

The one thing the Steelers have that Baltimore doesn't, and that's an offensive coordinator.  You're right Baltimore has a better all round team, but this Flacco kid is the real deal except he keeps getting his head handed to him each week because of an incredible lack of an offensive blocking and route running scheme  That Cameron has allowed the game to pass him by and lives off the talents of his players.  If he doesn't start actually planning a game correctly, he is going to get Flacco killed.

I saw this kid play at Delaware by accident, and I can tell you, he has a great arm and he's smart too.  Tough as nails, and we better start thinking this way when we plan our next meeting or we could go 0-3.  He's a lot like Ben except to go with a million dollar arm, he doesn't have a nickel head.

Corrected it for you: "Good game as usual.  Don't be surprised to see the Ravens hosting the Steelers in the playoffs, though.

brian8ball:  How do you let the clock run down when you have 2 timeouts left???????

What game are you talking about?  I know you aren't talking about the timeouts the Steelers left on the scoreboard.

Steelers went soft, and lost

Clearly this is Doyel's first year watching football.  50 yard field goals are not automatic in Pittsbugh.  I suppose if they missed the field goal and gave the Ravens a short field for the same thing to happen, Tomlin would be criticized for not punting and forcing a 90-yard drive.  Right?  Right.

I want to know where the pass rush the last drive.  There were four guys rushing who put no pressure on Flacco.  With Gay running around out there, it's just a matter of time.  You can't give any QB (even Flacco) that much time.

Good game as usual.  Don't be surprised to see the Steelers hosting the Ravens in the playoffs, though.

OKCStupid,

How many Superbowls did Noll win???  How many did he lose stupid???  Now shut up and look like a fool for even thinking of comparing a legend like Noll with a failure like Tomlin.  The moron won the SB with Cowher's players, and lost it because of coaching.
