Meyer to the Buckeyes

Urban Meyer has come out of retirement again to become the football coach at Ohio State, opening himself to mocking by most of the country -- but assuring that Ohio State will make a quick return to national power.

Meyer is that good.

And his story, of course, is that bizarre.

After retiring from Florida in 2009 for a whole day, then retiring again in 2010 for a whole year -- to be with family, he said -- Meyer is back on the sideline according to his most recent employer, ESPN, which reported the deal to be worth $40 million over seven years.

Seven years, $40 million ... sound familiar? It should. Those were the reported terms of this hire a week ago, when Meyer said he hadn't spoken to Ohio State and that no offer had been made. Of course he was using semantics, which will get him crushed today, just as his "retirement for family" will get him crushed today.

Those are valid points, but do not miss the bigger picture: Urban Meyer is a damn good football coach. Ohio State is a damn good football program. Together, they will do special things.

I can't think of a better hire for OSU. A liar with a history of players being arrested. Not to mention how classy OSU was to make this pending hire the big news during the week of their rivalry game. I feel badly for Luke Fickell, but it sounds like he will have a position on Liar Liar's staff. Surprised

If one wishes for an example of the pro-SEC/anti-BigTen bias of this website, they need not look farther than this sorry-excuse for an article.

O-H!

He needed a year to mourn the loss of Tim Tebow.  He should be fine now.  In related news, Braxton Miller's NFL stock just took a big hit.

He wasn't lying.  He said there was no deal.  There wasn't.  Of course a deal isn't goig to be announced during the season.

Has OSU even announced what is happening to Luke Fickel?  It's one thing to for Meyer to lie all week about accepting the OSU job, it's another to announce you've accepted the job before anything comes out about their current (interim) coach.  Not a very classy move, imo....

He'll be fine as long as he wins, he showed at Florida that "illnesses" follow when he loses

Major coup for Ohio State.  Analysists can pontificate and speculate all they want.  The Buckeyes are back!  And so is Urban Meyer!

He wasn't lying when he said he hadn't talked to Ohio, because he didn't  His agent however, was probably talking to them daily.  Good signing for Ohio.  Looks like the initials of their new coach is U-M.
